clockspring replacement in car-should I try it?

Never even heard of it till last week.Round wiring harness that goes around the yoke of the steering wheel.Took many hours of searching the symptoms to find it.

Don't have a mechanical background, but due to a fixed income and the internet,Ive learned to do a lot of repairs the last few years.
Have estimates of 310$...340$...and 410$.

Can get the part on E-Bay for between 80-110$ and try it myself.

Some concerns I have after watching tutorials.

Don't have a steering wheel puller-no rentals at my local stores-could buy one but doubt I'll ever use it again.

Never pulled a steering wheel.

Have to deal with an airbag, that kinda scares me even with the battery disconnected.

Something goes wrong, car is disabled and will need to tow it to the shop.

Leary of buy electronics on the internet..could order it local for 145$ from the auto-zone.

They warn the different clips/connectors for the harness are fragile, and get brittle after time

No warranty

But some of the positives

save money

feeling of pride

learn a new skill

I guess anything can be easy if you have done it before-but 1st time is always intimidating..I'm guessing most people have never even heard of this part.

So.I'm on the fence about this and any helpful opinions are appreciated..I'm leaning on doing it myself...but......

Let's block ads! (Why?)
