long term wilderness shelter

hey guys, I'm looking at possibly building a long term bug out shelter, it would have to be done by hand and I could probably have one friend help me. I was wondering if anyone had any shelter ideas? I live in Canada so it can get pretty cold here, I saw one guy make an A-Frame with a door and a fireplace, what do you think about something like that?
