How weight to lose per month when dieting/exercising?

I need to lose weight. In the past I read it isn't a good idea to lose more than 10 lbs per month. Does that hold true if a person did about 2 or 3 hours of cardio per day and cut calories so that he felt mildly or so hungry? In other words not cutting calories low enough so one feels like he is starving.

If a person was doing 3 hours of cardio exercise per day, how much can one lose per month without the weight loss being unhealthy?
