making seed from fruit

I really need a better title. Had no clue - but tried to search.



I got some heirloom tomatoes that I want to do something with to be able to have the plants.



I went to an extension office garden and it was full of tomato plants. I asked the lady if it was something special to have them in here. She said they were heirloom and just come back every year. I want those :). I grabbed a few of the red tomatoes as well as a few persimmons off the ground. help?
