Post-SHTF, people (including me) will be using water from wherever they can get it, and trying their best to purify it, once their personal stores are exhausted. There's no way that this will be perfect, and odds are people WILL be exposed to some level of pathogens.
So my idea is that, while there is good medical care available, is there any merit in exposing myself to low levels of local pathogens by drinking tiny amounts of untreated (or less treated) water, and let my body create a force of antibodies for them. It's risky, yes, and I might well get sick, but I'd far rather have that happen while there are plenty of 21st century remedies. I plan to talk this over with my doctor on my next visit. I'm putting up a rain catchment system, and it seems a decent way to start such an experiment, adding a fraction of an ounce of water directly from the tank to my normal drinking supply.
This in no way implies that I'd imagine this gives me some magic bullet to be irresponsible with water post SHTF. I'd still take all precautions. Just thinking about hedging my bets against inevitable accidents.
I welcome thoughts, even from those who think it's a terrible idea.
