I am quite sure this is due to a few crazy people who have backyard pistol ranges on tiny urban properties. There was a guy in the Florida Keys who had property about 50 feet x 80 feet, with a shooting range. Ugh. Drives his neighbors crazy.
My property is 2 acres, with a big sand backstop and I have 3300 acres of off limits, everglades natural area directly behind my house. It's a wonderful 67 yard shooting range. So, I can legally continue to shoot. Also due to the neighborhood being an acreage area, the cops know not to respond to reports of backyard gunfire.
However, such laws bring to mind the various state firearms discharge laws and property size. And to choose your "home" site carefully if you have any intention of target shooting on your property.
Florida has very reasonable laws about firearms discharge, safety and self protection. I believe in regular practice to maintain proficiency as a form of safety.
