Joined a while back and have been reading through lots of interesting threads on here. I am a big fan of the idea of self sufficiency and a more sustainable way of life. Although I have recently moved to the country with my fiancé and our 18month old twins, in the south of England that unfortunately doesn't mean acres of land and free roam of the country side. Saying that it is beautiful here and you can still wander in a fair bit of the woodlands and there are paths connecting up different areas.
Guns are strictly controlled here and even anything but a small penknife is frowned upon, pulling out a small fixed blade when camping raises the eyebrows of even close friends. Mainly because the media have demonised them following stabbings. Of course once they see how useful they are at camp they all want one. Hopefully the balance between common sense and fear will one day return although I won't hold my breath.
Where I live now we have a wood burning stove and there was once a well in the garden that I may try to revive. There is also plenty of wild life around should we get desperate for food. Not quite on the scale of some of the homesteads I've read about on here but as we say in England, from tiny acorns mighty oak trees grow.
So hello to you all where ever you are on our small planet and thanks for all the great threads & posts I've already read and also the ones to come.
Hello from southern England
