I have a fox problem. At least 3 spotted in the area (ranches all around me, and a small river). I lost 7 chickens in 7 days 3 weeks ago. Since then I've changed some management things, but I'm still concerned.
I have seen a fox 5 times and got shots off 3 times. Once I missed at 50 yards, full run, with a lever .44. Once I hit one with a .22 pistol, again 50 yards full run. Then I missed at 100y full run with the comped 3-gun AR (and about blew my left ear drum out).
So I'm beginning to recognize that every time I see a fox (or at least by the time I get a gun in my hand) it's at a full run at usually 50 yards.
I have an 1100 tactical (2 3/4" only....it's for 3-gun). It has full, improved, or modified chokes. 22" barrel.
Will this 12 gauge kill a fox at 50 yards? I'm guessing the full choke would be best. What load? I was wondering if high brass 4 shot would do, or buckshot, or something else? Or just stick with a rifle?
