I'd default to an XD 9mm since they're on the cheaper side, very reliable, and maybe you're Beretta is a 9 (?).
Whatever you choose...the cold bit is a good point. It sure won't be damaged by shooting in the cold, but it may malfunction. Just run to the range on a dang cold morning, haul it out and test it. I have done so with all of my rifles and pistols (well, just the ones I want to be able to rely on). I've also shot in -35 temps. Weird things happen in really cold weather.
And obviously, if there is a large risk of the gun getting stolen you wouldn't want to leave it in the car I'm sure. I've seen people get hammered on this site for similar suggestions. As much as I'm sure my truck gun isn't going to get stolen, I leave the XD in there, not the Wilson.
I'm in need of some gun advice!!
