threads are eating a lot of memory

i left this 40 comment thread open overnight and it eventually took 2.2 GB of memory! http://ift.tt/1pBfDyW

When free memory gets to 20MB, the paging gets very slow.

this has happened before with survivalistboards.com

I am using Safari 6.2.8 and OSX 10.8.5 -- and in the time i wrote this 1GB has been used!]
