Need HVAC advice

DefaultNeed HVAC advice

Greetings! I need some advice about a problem with my HVAC system. About a month and a half ago, when the weather was cold, we were running the furnace daily. Our system is a Goodman (furnace, a/c, everything) and it's about 20 years old. Problem is, I noticed that it wasn't running, no flame at the burners. So I shut it off at the thermostat. Waited a bit and turned it back on. The draft inducer motor started, then a loud buzzing was coming from the furnace. I immediately unplugged the furnace from electrical power. Much to my dismay I informed the wife that we will have no heat for a bit. My furnace model number is GMP075-4 rev b. I found a website that sells Goodman OEM parts and the blower motor is $163.74, the capacitor is $28.25 and the control board is $124.00. I'm not sure if I would need the control board or not. The company that installed the system says it could cost anywhere from $400.00 to $1000.00 to fix even if I supply the parts. We are senior citizens on a fixed income/budget and can't afford that. Do any of you think I can do the repair myself? I had a friend of mine that said I could do it easy. I'm mechanically cool, I used to be a CNC machinist and a CNC programmer, so I do know tools. So I guess my question is, will I have a problem tackling the job?
What do you all think?
Dave
