Evolution at work here.

Don't pick up a wild snake. How stupid do you have to be to pick up wild snakes? Don't chase them, play with them, or pose with them. I don't care if it looks like a "safe" species. Anything will bite if provoked and if you end up infected with germs from the last rodent it swallowed, it is your own darned fault.

If you plan to eat it, kill it first, chop the head off, and bury it if its a venomous species. Decapitated heads still bite.

Let the wild life stay wild. Only an experienced snake wrangler with the right gear should be handling snakes. Safer for you and safer for the snake.
