The forgotten Heros of WW1 100 years on

So much was sacrificed in the Great War, and its been the focus of much interest as the anniversary of 100 years since Armistice finally put end to a war that claimed so many lives and changed the face of the world.

One thing that seems to be forgotten is the Eastern Front and the great effort and sacrifice of the Russian Empire made from 1914 until early 1918. For that time they faced the Central Powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire in vicious prolonged battle.

After close to 10 million military and 2 million civilian casualties they were pulled out of the war eventually after the communist revolution. But in that time they mobilized 12 million men and inflicted over 6 million casualties and tied up a force that would have otherwise been facing and probably meant the defeat of the western allies. (in comparison the germans had 5.5 million casualties against the US, Britain, Canada, French etc)

The Eastern Front of WW1 was just as terrible and important as the Western front, but it seems forgotten by most although in over 3 years it was more crucial to allied victory we can appreciate.

Interestingly some Russian units were fielding 1895 Winchester rifles.

On behalf of my 3 great grandfathers and a great grandmother who served on the western front and didnt have to face those Germans, and all survived the war. I would like to say thank those Russian soldiers for there sacrifice.
