Marlin lever rifles?

Thinking about purchasing a new marlin lever gun. Caliber is undecided, but most likely a 30-30, or a 45-70.

I was reading some bad reviews at first when Marlin sold ownership, and the quality was poor in the lever guns under new ownership. Is there any truth behind those statements, or anything I need to watch out for on a new purchase?

I am open to other brands also, but the price point of the Marlin is hard to beat, and I would prefer to buy new.
