Canteen Plastic smell remove ideas?

The plastics probably off gassing, set it in the sun for a few days.

Then fill the canteen with very warm water and a couple tablespoons of baking soda, let it sit over night.

That should get rid of the smell, if it doesn't just repeat the baking soda rinse.
