Sec. John Kelly's memo about the VOICE office

This is the memo Secretary John Kelly (DHS) sent out last month to the directors of ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection and several other departments. It describes the program very well.

Some points that stood out to me:

1. DHS under Obama exempted some "categories" of "removable aliens" from the immigration laws. I'd love to know which "categories" and their justification for doing so. Kelly says that is now over.

2. DHS under Obama extended (illegally?) Privacy Act protections to persons other than U.S. citizens. That, too, is now over.

3. ICE under Obama spent money and resources advocating for illegal aliens - isn't that the opposite of their job?

4. DHS is now expediting removal of illegals who are currently incarcerated, not just rounding up new ones to stuff our prisons.

5. State and local LEOs can now be designated as "immigration officers" for the purposes of enforcing federal immigration law.

6. lCE must not only stop using any resources for outreach or advocacy on behalf of illegals but must now redirect all of those resources to the new VOICE Office. Excellent.

7. 10,000 new ICE agents and officers.

8. ICE must comply with the assessment and collection of all fines and penalties legal to assess and collect from aliens and from those who facilitate their unlawful presence in the U.S. This is broad and I hope includes so-called "sanctuary cities" and the politicians who support them.

9. ICE must make a weekly data and statistics report to the public. This includes not only data on apprehension and deportation of illegals but also their country of citizenship, convictions, gang membership, prior violations, reason for release and location of their release, etc.

Nice work, Secretary Kelly.
