Experience against the bolt action rifle

We are blessed with many recent combat vets here at SB. I wonder may I ask a favor?

On the surplus market are millions of dumped bolt action rifles of WW2 vintage. That is rifles that are of modern caliber.

Would you share with us your experiences against bolt action armed opposition versus the modern soldier with modern select fire and automatic weapons?

Are these relics rightly dumped as military arms? Are they virtually useless against better armed soldiers?
