How do you budget for prepping? My priority is multi purpose gear and primarily food supplies. But how do you decide how much of your surplus income goes to preps vs savings/investments.
I understand this differs for each family and look forward to hearing discussion!

Are any of you here in the US buying their meds from an online Canadian pharmacy? If so, who are you using. My Doc gave me a prescription that's real pricey and very little of the cost is covered by insurance, so I thought maybe Canada might be the way to go. Just looking at a few Canadian websites, it's less than a third of the US price. But, I don't know who is a good trustworthy source..

There's another report that's meant to be more Internet specific. It's here:

Look at page 346 and beyond. It has some interesting info about Immigration. No, we maybe don't want the great unwashed flood of indigent refugees. But it's really interesting to see how many top tech companies have CEOs that are 1st or 2nd generation immigrants.
Might be an interesting discussion here. Maybe not. But it's really interesting data. The financials... well... we have some issues. Seeing them like this makes it really stark. There's hope. But we've got some work to do.
If there is something else I should be taking away from that video, I'd love a summary.

would anyone buy it ....Most of the people in the state ignore their gun laws and keep quiet about it. The nut cases in LA, San Francisco, and San Diego roll around and foam at the mouth and the rest of the state gets their gun stuff in Nevada or Arizona.
During a brief time when I lived there, I had a sheriff there advise me not to comply with "assault weapons registry" or even magazine laws because, "if I know you have it, I might have to come and get it one day. If I don't know you have it, what reason would I haver to bother you at all?" Very smart guy.
Bottom line, be quiet about your personal property so you'll have it if you need it. I don't like it, but there it is. As I've said before, vote with your dollars and your feet - if you can't take the laws in CA and you can't change them, go to a "FREE STATE" TO LIVE FREE!

Hi, Im going to teach a couple of young kids in my church about survival, what is a good book for them to read? Thanks,A European court has ruled that the parents of a critically ill baby cannot privately pay for him to go to the United States for “experimental treatment”, and the child must stay in a British hospital to “die with dignity”.
The parents of 10-month-old Charlie Gard are reported to be “utterly distraught” after the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) denied them a final effort to save their dying son.
After losing a battle in the UK’s Supreme Court, they had appealed to the court in France to fight the decision of British doctors at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, who argued the baby could not be saved in the U.S. and must “die with dignity”.
Connie Yates, Chris Gard, and their son Charlie (Credit: gofundme.com)
Chris Gard, 32, and Connie Yates, 31, had raised more than £1.3 million to take Charlie to the U.S. for partially untested, “experimental” treatment, which they claim could save his life.
Britain has a socialised healthcare system, and despite the fact his parents raised private funds for treatment, the courts could have acted as what some in U.S. politicians call a “death panel”, decided who is and who is not worth saving.
“We strongly feel as his parents that Charlie should get a chance to try these medications. He literally has nothing to lose but potentially a healthier, happier life to gain,” the mother wrote on a crowd-funding page.
Some on social media agreed with the parents and expressed anger at the court.
Charlie was born healthy, but suffers from a rare genetic condition, called mitochondrial depletion syndrome, and has serious brain damage.
The ECHR ruled Tuesday that the British hospital was correct and the treatment in the U.S. could not help Charlie. The court said the application by the parents was “inadmissible” and added that their decision was “final”.
They acknowledged “sensitive moral and ethical issues” had been raised in the case and said they respected the “domestic legal framework” of the UK which had come to the same judgement.
A spokesman for Great Ormond Street Hospital said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with Charlie’s parents on receipt of this news which we know will be very distressing for them.
“Today’s decision by the [ECHR] marks the end of what has been a very difficult process and our priority is to provide every possible support to Charlie’s parents as we prepare for the next steps.
“There will be no rush by Great Ormond Street Hospital to change Charlie’s care and any future treatment plans will involve careful planning and discussion.”
However, Charlie’s mother argued: “We just CAN’T let our baby die when there is something that might help him! We won’t give up on him because he has a rare disease.
“He deserves a chance and he deserves a life as much as anyone else. We understand that rare diseases don’t get enough funding for research but why should that be a reason for a child to die?! He’s here now and this could help our baby.”
These haven't been punished TOO hard. One winter of logging, multiple hunting day trips and some misc winter activities including ice fishing. Only time they ever let me down was ice fishing all day in temps around zero degrees. Shoot, even went down to the lake today to clean them off and they are still completely waterproof!

Once Government got into healthcare it causes people like the Elderly and their Medicare to be treated like ATM machines, which jacked up the costs for everyone because the Government provided "Free Insurance". Allowing pre-existing conditions did not make the situation any better.
Let's examine today's Car Insurance, which is relatively low in the insurance world ...
You pay x amount to cover x amount. You file a claim when something serious happens, depending on your insurance. If you file too much, or it's your fault, your rates go up. Nobody files a claim for every "Bruise and Scrape" they receive. They also don;t file claims AFTER they crash.
Here's how Health Insurance works now. Every Medicare / Medicaid person enters the ER after a belly ache. They still get "Free" care. And now people get care, after eating junk food and not exercising, AFTER they have long term problems.
If this was car insurance ...
- You cannot be covered for more then you pay in, per policy
- You can't file a claim (enter the ER) every time you stub a toe (or else your rates would rise)
- You can't file a claim AFTER you crash, period.
- You can't smash your car with rocks and file a claim, that's fraud. (Treating your body like crap THEN asking for healthcare)
All in all, unless a similar system to a Car Insurance policy, where company all across state lines compete on the PRIVATE level only, it's a complete failure. And right now that is not happening, and it is a complete failure.

Between autonomous vehicles, government subsidized welfare programs and medical assistance, this seems like one of the final stages of total control to me.
About us, we are in our early 30’s, enjoy the outdoors, camping, etc. We have kids and are looking for areas that offer Catholic schools and a Christian sense of conservatism and/or libertarian-ism. I am thinking we will rent initially and buy land and build a house. Any considerations an outsider like me might need to know about?
What are the negatives of living in Knox or Hamilton County? Should I try to avoid them in my search?
Looking forward to picking your brains and I'm glad to be a member here.
But Sheriffs are elected for the WHOLE county?
Also is there a time where the Sheriff department got into a legal conflict with a city or state?
I am asking this because in the conservative and prepper community there is lots of emphasis on the Sheriffs. But I honestly don't understand the significance or a Sheriff if something like 3/4 of Americans live in a city.
I am sure I am missing something.
Guys, the you know what has officially hit the fan.... lol seriously though, I've been getting little hard pimple looking bite marks. At first I thought it was acne but I got them on my ankles. Wasn't sure what the hell it was and I started since I've gotten to my dads in Texas. I did research and thought chiggers but more evidence pointed to fleas. My dad said he's been getting little bumps like that for awhile but didn't think anything of it( a few every now and then). I put my hand on the rug last night when I picked something up and felt an itch on my arm. Sure enough there's a little flea looking bug(extremely tiny) and it left a mark that showed up today. Tried to capture it but when I lifted my finger it jumped and I lost him. My dad had a dog before he moved that slept on the couch ALL the time. Dog sadly passed away but my dad brought the couch he slept on. That's the couch I've slept on the past few nights. So, having said that how the hell do you get rid of these darn things? He moved here 6 months ago. Read they can hardly reproduce from a human host because they can't feed long enough but they're still here. Trying a carpet powder and vaccuming right now along with a ton of laundry. Any advice is greatly appreciated. These "itchy pimples" are getting annoying(I probably have 8-15 bites)
So they bring him into HR which is across from me. And I could hear him sobbing how sorry he was and that he was going to get fired.
I really feel sorry for the guy, because he always seemed an overall decent person and I got along ok with him. Now he's going to lose his job and have this black mark against him.
Just a sad situation.
But seriously, I have Glock's. Why? Because I have them already.
If I was starting out today? I think the Walther has a strong argument. A really strong one.
Best option? Shoot both. Go ahead and spend $20 or $30 dollars and rent them both, decide or yourself.
But factor in logistical concerns, too. How much do mags cost? How available are accessories like holsters, aftermarket parts, sights, etc... etc...
Glock wins those arguments, but by how much today?
What about reliability? I know about the Glock, haven't researched Walther so I can't comment with any knowledge.
I love my Glocks, but the PPQ has a sweet trigger. I have shot both, and I'm kind of hankering for a Walther, even like the P99 too. It's a personal decision.

For those of you who share custody of your children, what are you plans with regard to getting your children if SHTF? DO have a plan in place with your co-parent?
My son's dad has zero disaster plans in place. When I try to discuss putting together some supplies for his house he just laughs and starts talking about Jesus and the Bible and says he will be fine. (I am not dissing religion here, just stating that my son's dad is relying solely on this for survival apparently).
Despite his lack of preparedness, I am torn as to who my son would have a better chance of survival with in a SHTF scenario. His dad is very mechanically inclined and knows how to fix things (has spent 40 years in the helicopter industry repairing helicopters) is physically stronger and is generally more capable than I am in almost any survival scenario. That being said, I do seem to be able to carry our son for longer periods of time without needing to set him down, I am 20 years younger than him and don't need as much rest, and I seem to be the only one of us coming up with a plan and stocking up on water and food.
So, I am really at a loss as to what to do if my son is with his dad at the time of SHTF. He lives about 20 minutes away and I would need to act quick. If I show up at his house asking for my son, I do not think he will even give him up and I wouldn't put it past him to put a bullet in my head if the world is coming to an end and he can get away with it.
This dilemma regarding my son is becoming a huge issue for me in moving forward with formulating a solid disaster plan.

Picking up a M&P 9mm this weekend. I understand S&W recommends not using +p+ ammo. I have half a box of Winchester white box 147 gr. JHP. I...So, for my choices I vary depending on the seasonal temperature ranges. The challenges are both moisture management and thermoregulation. When temperatures, sun exposure, precipitation, humidity, and wind all fluctuate to some degree daily, your added aerobic exertion as well as periodic breaks make that moisture management and thermoregulation the real challenge.
I’m curious about choices for core (upper body) mid-layers. I’m a hot hiker. I can put on a damp merino wool T-shirt when it’s 45-50 degrees as long as I’m on the trail and moving to warm up. If temps are still cool and I’m static for more than 15-20 minutes, I do feel a significant cool down/chill, especially if it’s windy. For colder temps (30 degrees or just those extended cold mornings), I’m considering a breathable wind-shirt or a microgrid pullover top. Both dry relatively quickly, but the wind-shirt would likely do better with the higher humidity we face down here. When static of course, I can pull on my rain shell or if it’s colder weather, I’ll have a long-sleeve shirt and/or a puffy vest/jacket.
Some options I'm going to try out:
Patagonia Houdini pullover
Outdoor Research Ferrosi Windshirt
Patagonia R1 pullover (for colder months)
Lukesultralight...either his Argon or Epsilon wind shells (once he's recovered from injury and back on the stitching machine)
So, what do you use for your moisture management and thermoregulation for those high aerobic/exertion activities when temps are colder or just take longer to warm up?

2. What is the best way to store medications?
3. How do YOU decide on how much or any given med to stock pile and how/when to rotate?
I won't get into my personal credentials but lets say I'm no physician but am quite educated and experienced in medicine. It is my hope to start an informative discussion beyond the "well, get some NSAIDS and immodium" comments.
Currently my priorities include NSAIDS for pain/fever, diphenhydramine or course, and comfort meds such as ondansetron/omeprazole/certerizine/pseudnoephedrine. This list does exclude first aid supplies such as bacitracin.
I have a nice Logitech speaker system for my computer, this one:
It's not extreme high quality, but it's more than adequate for what I use it for. I do not want to replace it at this time.
It has a black male jack on the back of the large speaker and a wire about 2' long which plugs into the back of the computer and has a green male jack on the end of it (I have a Dell computer that is about two years old). In other words, the cable that goes from the computer to the speaker has a male jack on each end.
I want to be able to listen to whatever is on the computer in the back of the house by adding a couple of speakers back there. This is a large, old house and it is designed such that sound does not carry well down the hallway. I can have the computer speakers turned all the way up out front in the main room and it be barely audible in the back.
Can I buy a 50' roll of the wire with 3.5mm jacks, and then buy a 3.5mm Y-splitter with one male end and two female ends? I was thinking I could plug the male end of the splitter into the back of the computer, then plug the male end coming from the large speaker into one of the female ends and then plug the male end of an extension wire into the other female end. Then run the extension wire down the hall to the back (my bedroom) and connect it to a pair of speakers back there with another splitter.
Will this work? Any issues I should be aware of? Anyone done this?
This is an area I don't know too much about. Would there be interference? Will the signal weaken or be distorted by the splitters or wire length?
And before anyone asks, I don't want to go wireless. Too much money and headache.
I don't need symphony quality sound. I just want decent sound in the back of the house.

The Can I used this time is a FLARE CAN. It is the same basic dimensions as a 50 Cal Ammo Can, but 9.5" deep.
It will be powered externally.
I really wanted to put a SSB 11 meter radio in, but the can just wasn't deep enough... and there hasn't been a small SSB rig since the Uniden PC122XL..
Besides, I'd like 12/11/10M capability...
I am mainly building it for a road trip I have up to Las Vegas next week, and there are some stretches between here and there where Cell coverage.... ain't...
It will use a 2M/70cm dual band mag mount antenna and a President "New York" 11 Meter Mag Mount on the rental and either Cig Lighter Power OR be wired to the Battery...

Just in case the internet becomes unusable in the near future, what would be the most important things that you would want to have printed out ahead...I stumbled upon this site looking for a counter-top water filtration urn. I initially found Berkey. Since then, i see there are many more options. I am trying to narrow my search for an urn and filters. I did a search and did not find any information or posts about Berkey Earth ceramic filters. I found the following information and would like others' opinions.
Berkey Earth - $30-35 / lab test: http://www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com...uction-testing
Aquacera Cerametix - $39-45 / lab test: http://ift.tt/2sk57NT
Berkey seemed to have scored 99%+ in every category. Aquacera did not but is very close. One of the biggest complaints i see about Berkey Blacks is there is not any lab tests / results. For this example both companies seemed to have used "Envirotek Laboratories". Are they reputable?
Berkey Black - $100+ for two / lab test: http://www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com...de-etc-results
Does anyone have any experience they would like to share of these ceramics? Comment on the BB test?
Are pretty much all these filters interchangeable between all urns?
Today's clear coats are pretty robust and very durable to withstand what nature throws at them. Bird crap left on paint is probably the worst natural thing that can damage your paint. But keep it clean and you should not need anything else.
That being said, waxing or applying a "sealant" isn't a bad idea. But don't be fooled into expecting miricle.
This is a new, battery operated device that allows you to track an item it's attached to. It uses a cell phone app to let you see where your item is.
Seems it could be used for tracking stolen equipment but the range seems to be limited.
I just wanted to say hey guys. I'm in eastern Marshall Co. Like a few who've mentioned, I find it hard to trust strangers these days, but also realize there is strength in numbers. With that said, my goal is to hopefully acquire a strong, close-knit group of trustworthy fellow survivalists. I know, easier said than done, right? I want to share one particular blog that I feel would enlighten many, but I'm not sure if I'd be breaking any SB rules, copyrights, etc. You can Google Selco, he survived the Yugoslav war back in the 90's, and now has his own website/school/blog. He truly knows what it's like for SHTF....interesting read for sure. Anyway, good luck to you all and God bless...P5 thank you sir for your service!!!

*What is homesteading, and why does it matter today?*So I decided I would do the rest of it on the actual Army reserve. You know, that one weekend a month, two weeks a year thing. Buying Tricare is going to save me about two hundred dollars a month and I still get to maintain some of the skills I picked up in the Army.
The way I see it, I'll get some periodic Army training without having to do the dumb ****, mowing grass all the time or painting walls.
Even if it is a bunch of BS, at least I'll still get some training and the benefits. And if I hate it, I'll be done in November of next year. If I like it, I'll extend.
What experiences do y'all have with the Army reserve? I know what active duty is like. What is the reserve like? Just wondering what to expect.
He is one of my constitutional heros. Well thought out. Cognizant and articulate.
I want to start a discussion about "rights" their origin and their implications.
Let's talk about "Natural" law first.
The Declaration of Independence refers to "the laws of Nature and Natures God".
I understand completely the laws of Nature. The lionesses take the Zebra. That is Nature. That is natural. That is the way reality works.
That we are endowed by our existence of certain "rights" - by our mere existence I question.
Do we justify our own existence only because we exist?
And I know you can't prove or disprove a negative. Got it.
I subscribe to the Judaic and Christian codes of ethics morality and conduct. Mostly.
But if you remove the tethers of a civil society- are we not all animals seeking survival at our core? That's natures law. Natures god is a step above that.
I know that in an uncivil society- I would be less than a good guy.
It's probably best for all of us if we remain civil. Once those brakes are taken off...
That's not gonna be a bad day.
It reminded me of when I was a kid and pretty much no one we knew had air conditioning, we sure didn't. My grandparents were dairy farmers in central NC and never had AC. When my grandfather died in 1986 that house still didn't have AC. I would spend my summers there in the 1960s through the late 1970s and visit often. Even on hot days I never remember suffering. They would open windows and doors and run a big fan at the front door to draw air through the house. They also had big oak trees to block the sun in the later part of the day, and a big front porch. I do remember that the attic in that house was hotter than the hinges of hell in the summer.
We lived in three different houses that didn't have air. I remember that we got our first window unit in 1971. That was awesomeness. We would be out playing hard and come in and sit right in front of that AC unit. We could have lived without it but, it sure was nice on a hot and humid day.
My first car didn't have AC (1973 VW beetle). I remember riding in cars pretty much all of my childhood that didn't have AC.
It seems to me that these days AC is not optional for anyone. I try to get out in the heat in the spring summer and cold in the fall winter so that I don't suffer when the temps are within a narrow band. If the power goes out when it gets really hot a whole lot of people will be in trouble. Sure, people died from the heat back in the day, and they were accustomed to it.
I didn't go to an air conditioned school all the way through high school. I also don't remember the school being closed because it was hot outside. They just opened all the windows.
I work at a place now where people talk like they are really suffering just walking from an air conditioned car to an air conditioned building.
Just remembering the days when very few people had air conditioning. It wasn't that bad as I recall. A lot of it is mental I think.

and the Magpul MOE
http://ift.tt/2ua7gNp
Both are M-lok. Magpul weights 6.8 oz., costs $28. MI weights 5 oz. costs $120.
The only thing I will be mounting to the rail is a vertical foregrip due to wrist problems. That's another reason why I wanted a lightweight handguard.
My question is how fast do the aluminum handguards heat up compared to the Magpul? What are the advantages and disadvantages of aluminum vs plastic? Personal likes and dislikes are welcome because you may like or dislike something I may not have considered.
The only thing that slightly bugs me about the magpul is that there is no top heat shield. On occasion I like to dump a mag or two and I'm worried about that top plastic getting hot and melting.
Also, I'm wondering how much wiggle the magpul with a vert grip will have. I'm not liking the rail on my A2 handguard moving around.
My barrel is a government profile, carbine length.
Thanks all!

the protection of the Second Amendment — whatever the scope of that protection may be — simply does not extend to the carrying of concealed firearms in public by members of the general public.

What say you about your experience? If you have no student loan debt, or very little, how'd you do that? If you have higher student loan debt, how'd that happen and what are you doing to avoid letting it crush you? How do you go about making a living without a four-year college education? If you have a four-year college education, how is it helping you make a living? How is it not helping you make a living?
For me, I was 20, I worked two jobs. One was about 18 hours a week and the other was about 24 hours a week, and eventually quit the shorter one and went full time at the other. I also got a $2,500 loan to get me over the book prices and such. Paid that off a long time ago, though it was slow going.
I also chose a specific degree that could make me a living with only an associate's degree. Registered nursing. Did that for a few years and then joined the Army and did intelligence. Got out, got back into the medical crap. So now I have the $40,000 MGIB, so I'll use that on a B.S. and a Master's. Good to go.
For my kids, I have this Gerber plan... I pay Gerber about $100 (it slowly goes up over the years) and when my kids turn 18, they'll each get $10,000 cash for school (or a car if they have scholarships, or something like that). In addition to that, I will also let them know that there are many rewarding trades that will make a fine living letting you do something you enjoy, and actually PRODUCING something. College is one way, but it's not the only way, and it's not always the best way at age 18 or 20 or 22.

I look forward to a full decision in favor of the EO in a few months. And this isn't mean-spirited. America is a sovereign country with the legal and moral right to enforce its borders. Some European countries didn't do this and hell and havoc have resulted.

Okay then maybe you should not have an office in the White House. Politics just get in the way of all of those business dealings.
