Anyone have any experience with using non toxic RV antifreeze to protect their ceramic filters from freezing, cracking, crazing, etc during winter? We have a Berkey and a few Katadyn filters which we schlep home every winter to avoid freezing and cracking. We are thinking about simply leaving the filters soaking in RV antifreeze over the winter where hopefully the antifreeze will displace the water and not freeze and expand. I guess we could pump some thru to guarantee water displacement. Did some basic research and it looks like the RV antifreeze is either ethyl alcohol based or propolene glycol based (or a combo) both safe but maybe just residual and temporary bad taste. Seems like a fair trade off to protect the ceramic filters from cracking.....any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!
