This may explain why we've gone so long without serious consequences from CMEs. We've been accidentally repelling the vast majority of them before they can reach our electrical grids. And the good news is our protection is ever growing and we can ramp it up if we so choose. It's taking ever more powerful CMEs to break through to harm us.
