Wire and Amps

When I look at some wire charts for the wire size to amps it can carry is see two different values that I am not familiar with. These are "maximum amps for chassis wiring" and "maximum amps for power transmission". What is the difference between these two? For instance if I know how many amps an item will be drawing which of the two values do you use, chassis wiring or power transmission for the wire size I will need?
