When the topic of gun rights comes up, why do anti-gun liberals go off the deep end with gloom and doom?

For example, in the early 1990s when Texas was talking about passing a concealed carry law, members of the anti-gun community talked about how Texas would return to the wild west. Visions were drawn of Texans having shootouts in the streets.

More than two decades (1995 - 2017) after the Texas passed its concealed carry law, none of the propaganda has come true. In fact, murder rates in Texas took a nose dive. We talked about gun crime in Texas in another article - Gun Control Advocates Resort to Synthetic Numbers.
