If Horror Films Were Made In The South
Im from northern MN. My wife is from FL. Obviously completely different environments.
First time that I went to visit her family we were driving around. We are driving on a back road and a turtle is crossing the road. She wants me to pull over and put it in the trunk so we can drive to this swamp area and drop it off. Me being dumb, ok, lets do it.
We get to the swamp and I am taking it out, I take it to the water and thats when I realize its not a very friendly turtle. I drop it down into the water and thats when I see an alligator floating along the water. Nope, not for me. I go running away from the water and trip and find myself face to face with a not nice looking snake. Barely got away from that thing and then found myself facing a big wood stork that started charging at me.
Im yelling, running for the car and my then at the time fiance, is in the car laughing her ass off.
I told her that I am never coming back. Everything is trying to kill you. I much perfer the safety of northern MN where all you have to worry about are black bears and 1000 pound moose and -75 degree winters.
To be honest though, I have found that FL can actually be pretty nice once you know what to look out for. Still, 80 degrees on Christmas is still strange to me.

Even though I think the Buddy heaters have low oxy shutoffs, you may want to use caution when sleeping in a small area with a portable gas heater.

Meanwhile various reporters started reporting that some mystery woman called them and claimed that she was offered money for false accusations against Mueller.
They then looked into a company that claimed to have done investigations into the allegations but profiles of officials from that company were just photos of some actors (Christoph Waltz) and Israeli models and one was just a darkened picture of Wohl himself who claims ignorance about the whole thing which is funny since that picture is obviously him. Plus the same user who setup the companies website also set up the website for one of Wohl's other sites. And then it was found that the listed phone number for the company also led to a voice mail in his mothers name.
What do you guys think....actual credible accusations with a staged counterintelligence operation by the deep state? Or publicity stunt thought up by two rightwing personalities to troll #metoo/Kavanaugh/Moore sagas that was poorly executed?

American Redoubt - Northern Utah?
Not sure that I share the opinion, but certainly the water usage laws in Utah, strongly favor early settlers and landowners. It can be very difficult for new residents (any religion) to Utah to obtain significant water rights for agricultural use.
I considered Utah before I retired. Trouble was, I was not a Mormon, I was not a native Utah resident, and liked drinking beer on Sundays.

Create my own roads?
We went there for a visit and it looks to me like he's doing pretty good getting everything all set up, except for the roads. He seems to be having some real problems with his roads on the property. He's got some heavy equipment that he used to knock the necessary trees out of the way, but then the dirt road that was created (in a given area) always ends up washing out and becoming what looks like a tiny canyon. Where your atv may tip over if you get a tire down in there. And of course the part you drive on is now very narrow and somewhat difficult to stay on the road. And don't even think about taking a car or truck down there, it won't end well. But when the dirt road was first made, it would have been fine to drive his F350 down it.
Deep ruts that are a foot deep or more, have taken over many parts of the dirt roads. So I wanted to ask you guys if you've got any experience with creating good roads that don't wash out very easily and are prone to... actually staying roads. And not becoming a mess that is hard to traverse.
How cheaply this can be done? Will bricks be needed? What all types of materials will be involved? The amount of road that will be needed, makes it prudent to make the roads inexpensively if at all possible.

The annual leaf drop has commenced. After a blustery night in the 80 acre woods I wake this morning to find leaves bunched up everywhere. Against the doors, all over the shop floor, clogging drain channels and drifting about to create future work. I just got back in after sweeping, raking and disposing of piles. Those that wax poetical about Fall, and the colors of the changing leaves, I am sure will be dreaming up new sonnets to convince us how marvelous the event is. Well it sucks!
While perhaps not momentous in the scheme of things, the annual leaf drop for those of us that live in deciduous forest areas, end up with a lot of extra work to do if we want to keep things maintained. From now until late Spring I will be sweeping and raking. Almost makes me want to move where there ain't no trees.

Looking for Truck Drivers - need delivery of pallets from across America
The pallets could be anywhere form 200-2,000lbs (usually on lower end of scale) and distance can be from 400-2900 miles, from anywhere in the US to SE PA. At times there might be a few pallets at the same place or other pallets on the same route back to PA area.
If someone can do this, there are also very good prices on all kinds os things such as: tools and equipment (Home DIY quality to very high quality professional stuff), heavy equipment, most everything for home survival ("old" solar, etc), older diesel generators and more. Diesel or gas (and nat gas/propane) from 10Kw to 300KW! LARGE battery backups and more. water purification, you name it. Also the prices, as I've said are often really AMAZING!!!
Once the sale is closed there is usually 5-10 days for pickup, occasionally some will allow the proposed date/time. If anyone has the capability of doing this or might know of someone who would, please contact me. My email address is in my profile I think, or PM me if it isn't.

Yet, in these dreams, I often see myself (spiritual projection?) as dressed like Jesus. Although I reject the belief but have been told I am a perfect Christian man (except for the lack of belief). Why do I reject Jesus as my Lord, you might ask? (From a Scriptural perspective, I cannot get past the 1st Commandment. There is more to it than that but that should suffice for now.) Although I only hinted at my experiences with the HS in this OP, I wanted to lay bare how my theological foundation does not square with the typical believer while having experiences I cannot deny and feel a yearning to experience more. From a statistical perspective, I wonder how many others have my combination of rejecting Christianity while also experiencing the HS.

This was a pretty good knife that discusses several different common knives by someone that seemed to know knives, use of knives, and testing of knives.
this is a great knife book for collectors, really nice illustrations and some history.
Great book for how many brands and custom makers it covers. some knives are missing from some makers that i would have liked to see, but overall the photos are first class and it does have some awesome custom makers!
Just found this one today at a used book store. paged through it and it covers many of the combat and tactical knives we all recognize as serious blades used by militaries and soldiers around the world. great photos of the knives, the soldiers or LEO's that wore them, in the field and in the wars they fought in. good info!
Well, there's some good info on use, modification and care of knives in this book. as a manual its good, not much pazzaz, but its got the basics.

I have raised several breeds over the years, but for a meat rabbit, I have always had New Zealand and /or California. The cross between the two breeds has always surpassed most expectations for me. I raise purebreds of both, but for my food supply, I raise the cross for meat.
My wife has shown rabbits in competition, everything from Netherland Dwarf to Angora. Color is anybody's guess. The color charts aren't always right. She is working with Broken New Zealand Reds. Its over my head. I got better thing to do.

Now I'm told that I have "severe" aortic valve stenosis, and need a valve replacement in the next few months.
And at the same time as I'm receiving this devastating news, my employer is switching to one of those high deductible insurance plans. I'm on the hook for $6500 before it kicks in.
And I'm only 12 months away from qualifying for Medicare.
And I come from a long lived family. Yes--there was some heart trouble in my parents, but not until they were in the 80's.
I wish now I would have smoked and boozed and partied more. Living the "straight and narrow" did nothing for me.
Yeah--I know it's normal to get "crapped-on" by Goddess Fortuna sometimes in life.
But I feel like a buffalo in the sky just unloaded onto me.

where does your gas come from?
This year we had florence and micheal,way to the north of me.Still topped the cars and filled a few cans.My thinking was a bad hit in northern Fl.would disrupt tankers from getting down here.
Come to find out port of everglades isn't too far away,and handles most of the supply for down here.
Its still smart to prepare just in case,but its nice to know it wasn't as likely as I imagined.One less thing to worry about.
Took a direct hit from Irma last year,and was ready for it.Didn't have to worry about gas,but it took a while to be available again.
No elec..so no pumps.
Road s closed,so no trucks.
Also,they were diverted to the larger stations on main roads/evacuation routes first.
Anyways,its just handy to know where your supply comes from.

Why are we wasting our time?
When you look around the posts on these boards (and notice the posting patterns of many specific members), you see that reality.
Virtually all big civilisations in human history accelerated their decline and fall by very self destructive behaviour. The US is behaving in a way consistent with that history.
And people are the problem.
But everyone thinks the problem is not with them personally and many of them are incorrect about that.
These boards have achieved critical mass for a political perspective that is not welcomed on most internet forums. Consequently, the people who have that perspective and find these boards, also find a friendly and positive sanctuary for that point of view and will never willingly leave without being kicked out.
Division in the US has led to different groups retreating to their comfort zones when discussing politics. People now source their news from "trusted sources", but that also results in confirmation bias and people only listening to what they want to hear.
The longer people live their lives in these different but more comfortable versions of artificial reality, the less chance there is that any common ground, compromise and agreement will ever be possible.
How can people ever agree if they don't even believe in the same set of facts or exist in the same reality?
That is why the US is doomed.
It is now just a matter of time.
That is why I participate on these boards - to be better prepared for what will happen.
But I have to admit that at the same time, places like this are also part of the problem.

Best appliances to run on generator.
I would look for energy star ratings as a start. More efficient stuff will be cheaper to run.
The most expensive power you will ever buy is the stuff you generate.
I lived on generator power for weeks at a time 24/7 as radio guy in the army - very expensive.
I would look at having a battery bank and perhaps an inverter so I could limit the hours per day using the generator.
A propane refrigerator/freezer could work. I had a Servel for years - about 3 weeks on a BBQ tank of propane. Could make ice.
I use a propane cooktop. I can cook for myself almost a year on a BBQ tank - even with the X who could only cook on full blast we never used 4 tanks a year.
LED lighting - I added some off road spot/work LED lights to my cabin. Good for 9-30 VDC. I can power them with my HAM radio battery bank used for my 2 M radios. I also have a power supply that runs on AC from the grid.
Don't ever let the generator run out of fuel with your load connected - stuff can fry in the power surges.
If you need space heating/water consider capturing the heat off the exhaust and perhaps the engine - 2/3 of your fuel $ are wasted as heat.

Yucca and various cactus were growing wild when I got here.
I'm merely transplanting and reseeding to make harvests more convenient.

Over the years I have always found the invoice on Edmunds and worked up from that point. Today all the web sites seem to have it camouflaged and you can't find it. They have instead set up the site with contacts with dealers and salesmen who dog you with the deals. Buying a new car is a survival tool and that's why I'm posting it here.
