Act of Civil War or Murder

First, I do not wish for civil war. But we cannot ignore the deep partisan divide and the volatile reality of the current climate in the U.S. Isolated incidents have already occurred, but a major assassination or other large politically charged violent event could blow our national top.

If the left and right ever come to bullets, there will not be a formal line of demarcation. No formal declaration of war. At least not at first. So at what point does a political adversary become a legitimate threat?

At what point in the original Civil War, was it biblically permissive for the Christian, from the north or south, to kill his former countrymen as an act of war rather than an act of murder?

There is no correct answer, but it's something to consider intellectually. I fear we are drawing ever nearer to needing to make that determination.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
