Do you or someone you know have ED?

I am not only a wife but a nurse, so this is why I am writing this.

We found out in May that Hubby has NO arterial circulation to the right side of his brain, over time the brain made more blood vessels (collateral circulation) and along with the circle of Willis, the arteries on the left side of his brain are supplying all the blood to his brain. He is also diabetic.

The Dr. told him not to take any Viagra type meds. Urologist gave him samples of a new drug (to us anyway) MUSE (Alprostadil) urethral suppository and it worked great and he no longer has bad headaches or other side affects like he did from Viagra or Cialis.

He checked the cost and it was much to expensive but somehow he worked with Medicare and drug companies to get the cost way down.

If you have headaches from Viagra type drugs, might want to have cerebral circulation checked.

Have found out since then several people has same diagnosis and lived for years with only very few problems..

He started showing symptoms on Nov. with weakness in L leg and sometimes things would slip out of his L hand. It later progressed to dizziness and then vertigo with nausea, on occasion. We went to several different doctors and none could help or even advise. When it started affecting vision in his R eye I put my foot down and made him go to MUSC and have cerebral angiogram and they finally found the problem.

The only thing that has not cleared up is vision but it is not all of the time. He also is having a few more problems with memory, agitation and is more tired. Even at 70 he still has to be the (HE) man though and has not slowed down.

Hope this info. helps someone.

Have a blessed day

Hello from San Francisco

Hey all I am from SF. I am a very new prepper. I see that I may need to scrub through the forums to find some locals. I guess I am just looking for some really good advice from people. I am new to all of this and live in a heavily dense city. I know it's not ideal to live in a city but this is where I am at. Some good info to know about my situation. I live in a small studio apartment and I do not have a car. I live about 1 mile from a lake with a lot of fish. In the case of an emergency I am going to a friends house that is close by. His house is well protected with a metal gate protecting the front of the house. So tell me what you guys think and tell me a little about yourself!

UPS Battery Upgrade

I have a project that I'm working on. Portable power pack type of setup using an Ion Explorer speaker system.

http://ift.tt/ZZjHfH

It has a RT1250 12v 5ah lead acid battery and I can't resist some upgrades. I love the speaker and plan to use it for my upcoming wedding. Once I get through the wedding ceremony, mod time is on!

I want to upgrade to a higher ah battery and perhaps one of more reliability. I have room inside of the speaker housing to add a rather large battery, but I wondering what ups batteries are out there with a higher ah that would fit in the existing battery compartment which is 3.5x2.8x3.9"? My plans are as follows...

Add a 12v outlet

Small solar panel

200w or 400w inverter that I already have. I want to keep as much room inside the case for the inverter as I can. I can remove and extend the back wall of the battery compartment for a longer ups battery and keep most of the room inside of the case. I'm just not familiar with ups battery sizing and haven't found allot of options.

This little speaker is a ready made portable power supply and I think it will be really cool tagging along with me in the travel trailer.

Hi from Denmark

Hello from the cold Northern Jutland - Denmark :)

Hi from Denmark

Powder

I went by our Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday. I was surprised to see the shelves lined with powder. Trucks come in on Tuesday and usually they only receive a one or two types of powder in limited numbers, and those go fast. You have to be there or go without. Some will stay on the shelves, but they are off the wall types (.50BMG, and some type of Vihtavuori that is good for unpopular calibers).

But not yesterday. RL17, RL 15, RL22, IMR and Hodgdon in popular types. Even a couple of 8lb jugs.

I didn't need any, but it was a welcome sight. I sat there for a bit watching others as they came around the corner and did the double take. One guy took off his glasses and cleaned them before looking again, another old codger asked me if he had finally gone senile. The last guy I saw was walking up and down the aisle, muttering to himself about how ****ed his wife was gonna be.

The Pandas were happy. I hope it keeps up.

Does anyone know how to turn this annoying thing off?

Google Chrome Voice Description

Been here almost a year and hadn't done my new member intro (-:

I just realized, I never did my new member introduction :D: Been on this forum for almost a year. Oops.

Jacksonville, FL native. Born-again Christian. IT professional. Former Republican. Not a Democrat or Libertarian. Just a born-again Christian, and that's how I vote :D: Three red-headed kids, one of each. (Winky face.) Ages 5, 7, and 9. Daughter (5 year old) may have autism.

Started thinking about having a plan B (and plan C and plan D) in the event I lose my job many years ago but in October 2008 things really set in at the height of the financial crisis. That's when I started learning about agriculture.

I was one of the million plus laid off at the beginning of 2009 in the United States, with a nice severance package. Spent 4 months jobless then finally found something in a distant city, just as the severance was running out. In fact, the first paycheck came in the very week the last of the severance was spent! That job lasted me until I got something better in my city. But they didn't think I was a match, so at the end of 2009 I was jobless and this time, NO severance package, in a still-bad job market.

At the time I was thinking I'd like to go into ministry, but there are certain Biblical qualifications that I hadn't quite met yet. I was talking with a friend who built his small business on the idea that he can make money to be a pillar of support for his local church. I thought, that's a good idea. I can't do ministry but I can do that. I should pursue a career where I'm working with Linux, clusters, SANs, in a big enterprise environment.

Two days later I got a call out of the blue from a friend who had an opening. He didn't even know I was out of work! It was a job working with Linux, clusters, SANs, in a big enterprise environment. And a 60 percent pay raise. Talk about precise!

So I make a good income, much of which goes toward my health. Been suffering chronic fatigue for almost seven years, so my number one prep that I have literally spent thousands of dollars on: My health. Having a nice BOL with self-sustaining food production means nothing if I don't have the energy to manage it. But with good health I can learn lots of skills to supplement the preps we don't yet have.

I think I may finally be making some headway on my health. Too soon to tell, but a recent change has had some positive effects. If I am indeed healed, the dream of my wife and I is to grow our own food Permaculture-style and teach it to others like Geoff Lawton does. Ideally we'd group up with other like-minded Christians, practice Biblical conflict resolution and peace-keeping, and prove to an unbelieving world that hey, Christians *can* get along :D:

In the mean time, my second-most important prep is to try to learn Oracle database administration, so that I can be in demand for a job as long as there is some semblance of economy left.

My wife and I both reasonably expect to face at least one of, and probably all of, these difficulties within the next 50 years. Sorted by likelihood.

* Hurricane

* Tornado

* Job loss

* Break-in

* Family illness

* National economic crisis (deflation or hyper, doesn't matter)

* Peak oil/coal/water/etc.

Not to mention other disasters. EMP, foreign invasion, totalitarianism, whatever.

I'm tempted to look at what I lack, what is left to do, and despair. But then I think of all I have to engage a possible crisis:

* Some skills

* Lots of knowledge (you should see my library!)

* Data regularly backed up offsite

* Valuables locked up safely

* Some friends that can help

* Several plans, and backup plans

* Some resources

* Some physical strength

* Wisdom about what to do, when

* Direction where I am going, what I am doing

* Family who would gladly have us who live in rural locations in two states hundreds of miles apart

* Some friends in other states who might take us in

* A house on a relatively quiet street on the edge of the city with several relatively traffic-free routes to bug-out-location A

* Almost no debt

* A wife and family members that are also on board with me

* A mother-in-law who's an expert marksman and experienced at homesteading, who conveniently lives at bug-out-location A on 2.5 acres with a well, a septic tank, several chickens, and some gardens

* Some conflict resolution skills

* A robust theology about disasters -- What some call "bad luck" doesn't make me question God or get flustered

* A God who promises that He will never leave me nor forsake me

* A determination to press on no matter what

* Hope!

I was thinking through our plans the other night, thinking about what we would do if this or that happened. I realized, it could be a lot worse. We really are prepared beyond the beginner level, and that brings me comfort.

We could take on a hurricane, no problem. For one, our home isn't even in a Cat 5 evac zone; We're on high ground. Never floods here. And it's far from water. Fortunately 'canes are rare in my county; Last big one was 50 years ago. (Course that means we're overdue, but anyway...) And I'll take a hurricane that I can see coming 3 days in advance over any earthquake. A big hurricane could almost be fun to deal with :D:

Almost. Hurricanes bring tornadoes, which are our bigger concern. We are in a trailer park, and tornadoes have been scientifically proven to be attracted to trailer parks. (Winky face.) But we'd bug out to location A if we had any reasonbly-sized hurricane come our way, so I think we'd be OK with that. If we get a freak tornado, there's a sturdy storm shelter 1 block from our house. Recently we had a scare 10 miles away and our phones all lit up, warning us if its approach. Got to finish those BoBs!

I probably would be OK with a job loss, as long as I'm not one of millions (e.g. economic crash). It's hard to starve to death in the United States :D: I'd gladly take a McDonald's or Walmart job if I had to. Opportunities in the U.S. are more plentiful than Democrats (or even some Republicans!) want us to believe.

A break-in would be difficult to deal with emotionally, but we've got security cameras, a good alarm system, spikey plants placed strategically under windows, outdoor lighting, and we live in one of the least attractive homes on our street. Other houses are better targets. You don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun everyone else :D: Soon perhaps we'll get some dogs. Even ankle-biters are better than nothing. If well-trained, they make good watchdogs, and frequently just the barking scares would-be-intruders. Also in the future is more self-defense beyond some non-lethal weapons. One step at a time.

Family illness: I have insurance, a job where I can work from home and take time off, a good church, and a big God.

Economic crisis: We're not as ready as we should be but we're better off than people like that guy who survived the Serbian crisis (can't mention his name here), or FerFAL were at the beginning of their crises. So probably we'll plug through just fine.

Peak everything: Same as economic crisis.

Unknown crisis? Anything is possible. So much of the prior-listed preps overlap into situations I'm not expecting. We'll just take whatever hand we're dealt. Plug away and trust the Lord.

The hardest bit has been stockpiling food. We're only now at about one month's worth of food stores, after prepping since 2008. Some of that has been because I've been so focused on my health (as I should be), some of that has been because our diets have radically changed many times, some of that has been because before my wife got on board she'd use up our storage food but not replace it. And I being too tired to keep after it, just let it go. But now that she's on board we're finally getting some traction.

I did daydream about collapse for a while, even looking forward to it. (!) There's a certain kind of appeal to the change up from the routine, the new challenges, the ability to stop having to come into the office every day. Then I realized, that's stupid! It sure is nice to be able to eat out once in a while, to go to church without fear of being sniped, to not have the threat that my daughter might die of cholera.

No, I'll keep things the way they are, thank-you-very-much. These really are the golden days of my life, despite the sickness. I'm in one of the best parts of one of the best cities, in one of the best states, in one of the best countries of the world. I have a good job at a good, stable company that doesn't demand ridiculous working hours, that's close to home and I go to work at an odd hour so I never have to sit in traffic. Shoot I can even bicycle there. I have a rich IT resume. I have a good church, good doctors, a good working car, a good (albeit small) roof over my head, a good family, with health that could be much worse. I have high-speed internet and the means to eat out occasionally. The stores I need are not too distant to drive to. If collapse happens I have lots of resources to lean upon. I am richly blessed.

Are we ready? No.

Will we ever be? No.

Are we grasshoppers? No.

Are we ants? Getting there.

Are we going to make it? Probably :D:

Are we as well-off as some of you here? No.

Are miles ahead of Joe Sixpack who just *has* to have that new iPhone? Certainly.

Thank you Jesus for getting us this far. Please keep crisis off us as long as possible.

That's my story. As you can see, I have the gift of gab :D: May my story inspire you with optimism. The fact that you're even on this forum says a lot. You're probably doing better than you give yourself credit for.

using canning jars for storage

I have been using canning jars for storing all kinds of stuff. Tobacco, rolling papers, cake mixes and you name it.

Why not? They are as air tight as it gets and you can see what's in them. They don't cost that much, $.70 maybe?

And some time after TSHTF the jars will be like GOLD. If you are going to have a garden your going to need to preserve

some food for later. So when you use canning jars as storage there is 0 wast. Even the container will be put to good use.

Canning jars are part of my preps so why have a stack of empty jars? They come in a case of 12 SHRINK WRAPPED in a heavy

plastic I can cut a slit in the plastic wrap pull out the jars and then put them back with whatever I want inside them.

This makes them really great for stacking. Even if you don't plan on needing them they will be great for bartering

These have tobacco in them

Make sure you have lots of extra lids

Life insurance

Just wondering if there's anyone out there that feels like me. I work fulltime and prep in my spare time. I'm doing ok money wise. I can afford to buy preps at least while I'm still working.

I'm able to buy preps and pay my bills right now but I really want to live off the grid.

People that just don't want to depend on civilization to survive. I'm SO damn tired of worrying about filing taxes. I got an extension til Oct 15 but thinking about doing the paperwork makes me want to gag. I won't owe much unless they will charge me a fortune for my mother's life insurance, which I'm thinking they will. She already paid taxes on it once, but oh well.

Pandora's Promise Trailer - Nuclear Power Doc

Quote:

Pandora's Promise is a 2013 documentary film about the nuclear power debate, directed by Robert Stone. Its central argument is that nuclear power, which still faces historical opposition from environmentalists, is a relatively safe and clean energy source which can help mitigate the serious problem of anthropogenic global warming.

Finally getting a Berkey!

I recently travelled an airline that had oversold its seats and asked for people to give theirs up for other passengers. As I wasn't in a hurry to be anywhere, I volunteered. As a thank you, I received gift cards for $600 for Amazon.com. I was looking around, thinking I'd buy Christmas gifts for the grandchildren, when my DD said "hey, Mom, what about that water thingie you've always said you wanted?" Good idea! Amazon had Big Berkeys for $288.50, so into my cart it went. I also ordered a LifeStraw for $19.95. Subtotal came to $328.40. Shipping and handling brought it to $370.68 Import fees totalled the bill to $421.59. So, for a $288.50 Berkey, I paid over $400. It seems a lot, but as it was 'free' money, and there was no other way I could see me affording it, I sent for it.

I am so excited! I have followed many threads on here about Berkeys for years, and have vacillated between them and Aquarain, but in the end, it was Berkey. Don't let me down, Berkey. :thumb:

Ammo Qeustion ....

While buying some ammo from a guy who had sold his "AK" and other 7.62 * 39 round's.

I got one box of, "Hanson" "SP" they had some tarnish and some greyish color on the lead soft point tip's.

All the other ammo I bought was kept in ammo boxes and is pristine! My qeustion is, I cleaned the tarnish off the bullet's, (only 5 were funky), will theybe ok?

Should I put a "very tiny" amount of lube on a paper towel and wipe the upper(Not the Primer I already Know) part of the round and "Lead Soft Point" too keep it from tarnishing again???

Advice would be "Appreciated"

specific LDS food storage reccomendations

http://ift.tt/1uCiVOS

I was hoping I could get some guidance as to a smart shopping list of LDS food storage supplies.

Something along the lines of: For every 3 units of rice, buy 1 unit of beans for a balanced meal. For every 2 meals of rice and beans buy 1 unit of quick oats for breakfast. Or anything along these lines.

Also, any recommendations that apply specifically to the current offering from LDS as to enhance potential meals - specifically long term shelf stable spices or other ingredients that would turn simple rice and beans into a tasty meal?

Thanks!

Red Dot Sights

Wanted to throw this out there. I have EOTechs but wanted something that wasn't as expensive and gave the Armasight MCS Day Time Red Dot Sight a try. Here's the link from the manufacture

http://ift.tt/1mtwKjW

In short the highlights are

- A switchable 3.5 MOA dot to 20 MOA ring reticle pattern

- Automatic brightness control based on the target area brightness

- Night vision compatible mode

- Submersible to 10m (33 ft) of water

- Push button controls for reticle switching, manual override of auto brightness, night vision mode, and on/off function

Haven't put any rounds down range on my 5.56 and have only played with it at the house. Looking at it outside in full sun was nice with the shade cover on and full power provided enough brightness where seeing the dot wasn't an issue. This goes for bot the dot and the ring. To give you guys an idea of sun light I was dealing with I live in AZ and the sun is bright. I did find that trying to use the full power settings inside there was a bunch of overflow from the LED but with the automatic brightness control that was never an issue. So far the only negative I have is that both reticles are rather small compared to my EOTech and will require some practice to get use to. Will provide more impressions once I get it on the range.

cabin fever !

I own 5 acres and there was once a mobile home on it but its been long gone found the septic but lid is caved in ..there is a power pole there but haven't found a water pipe...(no well)

so heres my question im a poor old guy and don't have a lot of money ..im so tired of living in a small apartment i really would like to build a small cabin on property but not sure if I have the money to cover it. what do you suppose it'd cost?

codes say it has to have atleast 750 sq feet of living space...but a loft counts as living space right ?if so even a one room cabin with sleeping loft would be fine with me..

I have also toyed with the idea of a camper or even a wall tent sitting off ground on a deck...I wouldn't mind staying off grid and even catching rain water .and just building an outhouse .

what would you guys suggest?

btw im in north ga and we have pretty mild winters(last one was a b**ch..but usually upper to mid 30s most of the year with brutally hot summers....

Prepping pays off tonite!

Living in Central Texas, it stays hot well into October. Last winter, when nobody wanted them, I picked up 2 air conditioning window units on craigslist. 8,000 BTU, got one for $75 and the other for 80.

Put them in the garage, threw a cover over them and forget about them.

Tonight, Saturday my central unit craps out. I only notice after the temp inside has drifted up to 80.

No need to call a HVAC for an emergency weekend nite service call! Put one unit in the bedroom and one in the living room and relaxed!

Tomorrow I'll check and see if its the compressor or the capacitor on the central unit, but there is no need to rush and no uncomfortable hot night!

Knorr's/Lipton Sides test

I got out a package of Lipton/Knorr Buffalo Rice that has been in the deep freezer for the past year. It expired in Jan 13. Cooked it up, added browned beef (shredded in a processor) and bell peppers. Added shredded Italian cheese on top. Came out tasty. No one got the runs or vomited. Texture and flavor were normal. One pot meal ready in 10 minutes. I will test again in six months. Next up will be a Bear Creek product (veg chili) that expired in Jun 12. I am still trying to find if deep freezing keeps them from going bad. So far 1.5 years past best use date all is well.

Hello from seattle

I found this forum in search of information with prepping and survival together, With the current and most likely future state of this country has me a bit concerned about our security and ability to protect the homeland.

Hello from seattle

ISIS spotted in my city!

So I'm driving home from work today and I get stuck at the same red light I get stuck at everyday. A few seconds, after I stopped, a truck pulls up next to me filled with, what I assume were, Middle Eastern guys. They were yelling something in a language I didn't understand. I noticed they were holding a flag out the window and then to my surprise I noticed it was an ISIS flag. I then saw all the posters stuck to the truck. They read things like "Death to America" and "Die Infidels". I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Before I could process what was going on the light turned green and the truck full of Muslims took off. As they sped across the intersection a huge semi truck blew the red light and plowed directly into their truck. Pieces of truck and body went everywhere. It was a bloody mess. Just then I thought "Wow, that could've been me". So tomorrow I'm signing up for trucking school.

Bug People Needed

Found a nice sized caterpillar in the yard a couple weeks ago and some wasps today. I'd love some help figuring out what they are. As far as the caterpillar goes, the closest thing I can find to it online is some moth from British Columbia. Since I'm from Windsor Ontario I don't think it can be that. Also, these wasps on a tree were acting very odd. They were crawling all over each other fighting to get their heads into a crevice in the bark, if you could tell me what kind of wasp they are and what they're up to I'd appreciate it.

I'm really enjoying reading these threads. I won't have much to contribute other than thanks.

I do want to reccomend a very old, hard to find movie called "Panic in Year Zero", starring Ray Milland. It's from the fifties, but shows how a family gathers the right supplies and survives the collapse of society after a nuclear attack.

You may be able to watch it online.

How many here have or had a KLR

I'm curious being that the KLR is a simple, reliable, cheap utilitarian motorcycle that does everything okay but nothing well. It seems it would be popular among the survivalist crowd.

650s or 250s

here's my klr650, prior to test riding one I assumed I would hate it for the same reason I hate the air cooled honda XRs and crf230, overweight, underpower, under suspended, sub par brakes, general boring-ness. but somehow it makes for a great package and the 650 lump while gutless on the road, on the trail similar to a 250f MXer in terms of power just in a heavier bike.

It is my DD, and while I haven't rode much this year I have put 5000 miles on it since I got it 5 months ago, usually this is the point where my motorcycle ADD kicks in and I try to move onto something else but oddly it seems the mediocre KLR is here to stay.

It seems like it could go anywhere I would have been able to take any of my KX's or that KDX but I need to get a D606 or K760 rear to really test it out on some technical single track. On all the medium single track it's been fine even with the horrible k761.

it's about 2-3" too low, comes with a plastic skid plate, rubber pegs and a 17" rear wheel. of course there's the doo and less than strong bolts on the subframe... My first and biggest problem with it was the buffeting caused by the fairing, as you can see in the pictures I fixed that and added wind protection.

the KLR has many faults but they are cheap to correct. there are bikes that do stuff better and there is a small handful that do everything better but they are either more expensive or higher maintenance.

PS pictures are always good

The thought-police are at it again........

"Hinsdale Township High School District 86 has launched an investigation into 17 teachers who liked a Facebook post linked to a story about teacher contract negotiations accompanied by a photo of an ax lodged in a car windshield......

....."This appears to be a blatant abuse of power and an inappropriate use of district resources which serves no more purpose than to intimidate association members and discourage them from taking part in legal activities," Bowman said. "I object to any questioning of these employees and suggest that the district administration rethink taking these teachers away from their students to interrogate them about an issue that has already been dismissed by trained law enforcement."....."

Hello from Western Mass

I just found this site googling how to store my harvest of dried beans. It was a good year for beans and they got ahead of me so in rereading the seed packet, (a good reason to keep them, even empty) I found out I can dry them. I've got about 10 lbs so far and waiting on the other half to mature.

It looks like as long as they are dry I'm good to go for about 5 years with no special storage needs, great reading

I'm retired US Army & USPS rebuilding my new wife's house and planning the construction of a new Passive Solar house in the area. I spend a lot of time in the woods, I grew up hiking the White Mtns of NH but there's too many people there now. I am now learning to be a forager. I know most of the trees, shrubs and flowers, my wife knew the mushrooms. In the past few years I've pulled it all together and it has changed completely the way I look at the woods. We've had a fair year shrooming. It started great with the Morels and picked up with the Black Trumpets and still hoping for a good harvest of Hen of the Woods.

MY son, grandson and I spend a week each year with an ever changing group other of people canoeing the Allagash River in Maine. This year we started up on Eagle Lake for about an 80 mile paddle. Nights are spent doing BC activities and teaching my grandson to use some of the gear and tools before high tech.

Looks like a great Board with lots of activity. I'm ready to learn and contribute.

Greenie Weenies and Wood Stove Forum....

I have membership on many internet forums of varying interest. One of those is a forum devoted to wood stoves and wood burning. What a bunch of wimps! Most of them welcome the EPA like the second coming!

It only makes me fear that much more for the future of our country. These people just can't wait to lie down and take it. Anybody that talks about having an older "non EPA approved" stove is immediately told to "Go buy a new stove"- For a mere $3000 of course.........it's ridiculous.

What will these booger eating morons do when the EPA's new mandates take place that all but ELIMINATE wood stoves PERIOD?

Happy birthday National Anthem

I was privileged this morning to be present at the birthplace of "the star spangled banner". Today is its 200th anniversary and I am where it happened.

For those that dont know, the event that inspired it is well worth reading about. Our nation on an unsteady and dark precipice. The flames of a burning Washington visible 35 miles away added to the belief that our rebellion was failing.

The great might of the British naval guns as the pound Ft McHenry towards submission. Come dawn, one symbol remains.

God bless those brave warriors and God bless the United States of America!!

"Moderate" Syrian Rebels Sign Non-Aggression Pact With ISIS; Iraq Defies US

Quote:

First it was the 'broad coalition' that appeared a little narrower than President Obama explained to the world last week. Today, 2 more crucial aspects of the 'strategy' appear to be faltering. Despite the promise of $500 million to train "moderate" Syrian terrorist/rebels to fight ISIS, GlobalPost reports Syrian rebels and jihadists from the Islamic State have agreed a non-aggression pact for the first time. Under the deal, "the two parties will respect a truce until a final solution is found and they promise not to attack each other because they consider the principal enemy to be the Nussayri regime." Not exactly what Obama and Kerry had in mind. But it is John Kerry's trip to Iraq that appears to have had blowback already as Reuters reports the newly installed US-friendly PM al-Adadi ordered his air force to halt strikes on civilian areas, "even in those towns controlled by ISIS," just a day after Kerry's visit (which left Turkey explaining how it would not support US airstrikes either). So far, so good?!

Envisioning the possibility/probability of type of terror attack?

We Always think of terror attacks as taking over airliners, dirty bombs, gas and poison attacks, or bio-weapon attacks. However, something struck me the other day when I was watching another "Special forces in the middle-east rescuing someone and having to shoot it out and run" type of movies.

In all of the movies they have the taliban etc come busting into a street or small village in a number of pick-up trucks and deploy and start offing people.

It struck me that that could be a scene HERE in the US! People at a city celebration, at a theater, in a park, etc and all of the sudden 2 - 4 pick-ups show up with terrorists with their heads and faces covered with their rag-hats/face coverings and just start shooting into the crowd and tossing explosives!

We always think of terrorist attacks in terms of secretive, after dark, or small cells operating alone, but what do you think the probability is that they start attacking large crowds like they do in their native countries, then just fading away and scattering to the four winds only to regroup and attack again?

This has put me a little more on edge about terrorist threats, especially after Saudi-Arabia and the UK have started warning us that there's terrorist cells already in the US. And these terrorists have nothing to lose and everything to gain from attacks of this nature. A low tech approach like this is cheaper, less planning, and more terrifying as it could happen any time, any where!

Your thoughts?

Envisioning the possibility/probability of type of terror attack?

Syria Rebels, ISIS in 'Non-Aggression' Pact near Damascus

Perfect timing for the West to supply moderate Syrian rebels with arms..nope no coincidence at all with this 'pact'. So Obama will airstrike Syria..or Syria will shoot at US planes that invade its airspace and Obama will use it as a pretext to attack the Syrian government while newly armed ISIS members overthrow the Assad Government on the ground. 'Red line' part deux..

Question abut Forum rules

A thread I stated is gone, which means, I believe, that it has been taken down. The subject is very important to me and I can't see how it violates the rules, per se. Is it allowed to restate the argument, being very careful in the wording, and try again? If not, could I suggest that another member restart the topic? Thanks for the input.

iPhone 6 pre-order - did you snag one?

So I rolled over in bed 'round 7am Friday morning and checked a few news apps as usual to see if the ending of the World had started as I slept.

On FlipBook I see a story that the "iPhone 6 has already started to sell out."

I currently have an iPhone 4 and was planning to upgrade to a 5 and was even considering going after the 6.

...so I rolled out of bed and wondered over to my 'puter.

I signed in to my account with Sprint and got the "iPhone for life" lease plan on the iphone 6. Got my order number and everything. Says "Trying best to have it delivered by September 19th." (To my house - I don't "do" lines.)

We will see... :taped:

Anyone else have really good timing or luck in navigating the pre-order craziness and snag a new iPhone 6?

Couponing For Preps

How many of you coupon or extreme coupon for preps? I use http://ift.tt/1amBXBV to find matchups the day before my stores sales go live and buy coupon from clipping services online. They usually arrive 2-3 days before the sales over and I go in and get lots and lots of free items. For instance bagged frozen veggies. I bought over 100 bags of pictsweet veggies and canned them. The coupon made them free and I just paid about $8 for the 100 coupons. Also, I bought like 100 just add water Marie Callanders easy sides and yakisoba ramen bowls all free after coupon. When I get within a month or two of expiry I just donate them. Johnson and Johnson mini first aid kits are often free, hamburger helper down to $.20 a box etc and I'm sure in a shtf making it w powdered milk even w no meat will keep some of you happy vs rice and beans nonstop. Canned foods like chef boyardee regularly drop to $.63 after coupon. Free or low cost juices. Lots of toilet pwper and baby wipe coupons. I recommend this to anyone. Putting some time and effort each week will save you so much money and build your stores so quick. Good luck everyone. If you have any questions or need help you can comment here or message me. I raise a kid and try to save where I can. Couponing is how I can put away $200 or more of items for $50 or less a month.

Need info for storing a lot of water

I live in the center of Arizona. It gets to about 115 degrees easy in the summer. We don't have a pool. In the case of emergency we would need at least 10 gal of water per person a day to survive. I'm looking to put in a large substantial system. Has anyone done this? I'd like to get some ideas from anyone who has stored serious amounts of water. Living in the desert is serious business and we don't intend to move. So any ideas are welcome.

Virus Warning for Mom's with Kids!

My daughter started having cold like symptoms yesterday. Tonight she is in the hospital for pneumonia. They are going to keep her for a few days. She has no previous history of lung problems. She is 3 and in Public school Pre-K.

They think it might be the Enterovirus D68. From a slightly runny nose on Thursday (she went to school) to labored breathing with crackle/wheeze with every breath this afternoon. Over the counter(Ibuprofin/mucinex) , vaporizor, 2 pots of boiling water on the stove at all times, Chest rub, slept elevated with 2 pillows... Got worse and worse. This is not my first "sick kid" rodeo. I've never seen anything progress so FAST!

Remind your kids to wash their hands and have them wash hands as soon as they get home.

(PS This outbreak is mainly in the Midwest. Also .. trust your guts Ladies! If you know something is "wrong", take action. I'd normally never take my kid to the doctor for a "cold" or the "flu" but this was different. )

Hello from Saint Louis!

Hello to everyone, looking forward to reading and learning as much as I can now that I've found this forum.

I never really gave much serious thought to preparing for survival in the past. Though as my life has changed, so have my priorities! Being a father I've always thought protecting my children was my most important job. I never stopped and thought about not having the accessibility to food, fuel, or secure shelter. In the city everything is around the corner. I don't want to find what happens when those items are unavailable?

With that said, there's a realistic chance imo, things could someday get rough. I'd like to gain not only basic knowledge, but put together a very comprehensive plan for my family's potential survival. I look forward to learning what I need to do, as well as what not to do.

Thanks in advance, I'm excited to get started!

fat in canned meat

So i tried my hand at canning, this is my first time,

I canned 5lb of ground beef, i followed a recipe that i found online, I used 80/20 ground beef. I rinsed the meat after browning, but after going through the pressure canning and cooling i still had a lot of fat on top. is this a problem.

I have read that the cans may not seal good with a lot of fat. My cans all poped right after i took them out and after cooling for 12 hours the seals are still holding.

Is the fat a problem i should be worried about ?

Strength Training For Hunting / Survival

I'm not sure if anyone out there does this, but I've been training for hunting trips to gather food for a while now. Not only that, but to have more of a physical toughness mind and body.

Hunting above 7000 feet makes everything difficult. Especially when you get an animal down. I use no motorized devises or horses so physical strength is a major priority and is why I started doing this.

Does anyone else strength train or do anything to stay in shape for their hunting trips or outdoor objectives?

With everything going on in the planet these skills are critical in my opinion. You can have all the survival tools, but if the physical and mental strength lacks there's a whole in the survival scheme of planning.

I even started blogging my progress with all this. Anyone out there strength train to survive? Let me know because I would love to hear what everyone's been doing.

Conservative Liberal?

Ok, so I love guns and do not believe in ******** as a form of birth control. I long for good old American values to return to the populace and strive to not let those values die within my family and scope of friends. I believe in small government that adheres to Jefferson's philosophy of "That goverment is best which governs least"

I hate the fact that our borders are meaningless and our current government does not seem to care. I believe that every single illegal alien that is here should be sent back (along with their anchor babies) yesterday.

Additionally, I was raised in a poor family, but we did not go on the welfare. My Father worked his butt off to provide for his family the best he could, never taking goverment hand-outs. I believe that the path to prosperity lies in hard work and dedication to such.

Conversely: I do not care about gays getting married. Hell, if they want to be miserable like most other married couples I know, have at it! I was raised psuedo-Catholic, but shrugged off the confines and hypocricies of organized religion long ago.

I truly do not care about marijuana legalization. I think alcohol has killed far more people than weed ever has or will. Weed is not a gateway drug, alcohol is.

Anybody else feel like they just don't fully belong to either the liberal left or the conservative right?

If our .gov can't do this, it confirms that a "Martial Law" scenario state side is impossible.

TOPS Compact Utility Blade (C.U.B.) question

The Eskabar seems a bit too small for my preferences and am looking at the TOPS CUB. Not only is it slightly larger but it has, if you know me by now, that flat pommel I prefer on my knives, as well.

Can I expect the Cub blade to be as strong as the Eskabar since they are both made with similar steel? 1095.

There is a hard testing video on youtube made by a Russian of the Eskabar really standing up to abuse and I'd like to know if I can expect the Cub to stand up to similar abuse. Or does it really depend on the company and not necessarily entirely the steel?

I've seen some knives that seemed to be good choices have catastrophic failures when batonning and I don't want to buy the Cub only to discover later it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Anyone have any experience with the TOPS Cub knife?

Thanks.

Just saw the helicopter

I read a story about a 'copter landing in Texas. Other folks talking about seeing more and more military style helicopter around the cities.

I just saw what appeared to be a Blackhawk.

I'm not up on these sorts of things. Any thoughts?

Hillary Clinton Would Be a Great President.

Says eugenicist Dr. Henry Kissing.... who is an advocate of reducing the worlds population.

Quote:

Dr. Henry Kissinger, who wrote: "Depopulation should be the highest priority of U.S. foreign policy towards the Third World."

Notice those last bolded words? "Towards the third world." Well, who are they reducing to 'third world' status?

Anyway,

Looks to me like Hillary is being groomed to sell to the Americans as a good candidate for the presidency.

AND, I bet if she runs... she'll win JUST because of her gender. I bet she get's 90% of the female vote just like Obama got 93% of the black vote... IIRC. :)

The love fest between Henry Kissinger and Hillary Clinton, which began last week when Clinton reviewed Kissinger's book, World Order, for The Washington Post, continued on Tuesday. This time it was Kissinger's turn, as he praised Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State in an interview with Susan Paige of USA Today.

I've known her for many years now, and I respect her intellect... And she ran the State Department in the most effective way that I've ever seen."

When asked if Clinton ran the State Department better than he did, Kissinger said yes.

Winterized Chicken Watering System

For those of you that raise chickens yearlong in a climate which can get relatively cold in the winter, you know that it can be difficult to have low-cost watering system that is not only efficient on energy and water, but also easy to allow you to not spend a vast amount of time manually filling or emptying your water buckets.

I created this system with a few goals:

1. Eliminate water waste

2. Retain a level certain level of autonomy in my watering system during winter

3. Provide a watering system that would not freeze over and damage the watering system

4. Use the lowest amount of electricity possible

With that said, I have a PVC watering system that I created a while back using ideas from this forum and other websites. I have an elevated bucket with a garden hose nozzle installed, and pvc pipe running from the bucket into my chicken run with poultry nipples attached.

With the winterized design, we modify the original design to bring in a source to heat the water in the bucket (submersible birdbath heater), and simultaneously pump the heated water through the system and back into the bucket. We add a winter thermocube to the design to allow us to activate the heater and the pump a few degrees before the outside temperature reaches the point of freezing.

Should your poultry nipples freeze over due to wind chill, the heated running water will defrost them over time. To prevent this from occuring often, I reccomend putting your thermocube where wind can pass over.

Depending on where you buy from, and what materials you already have, this system should cost around $65. It is likely that you could expand upon this design to leverage wind or solar power, but I couldn't balance out the cost to benefit ratio with my design and my conditions.

I created this system to be used with 4-6 chickens. If you raise more than that, I would suggest that you increase the size of the bucket, increase the birdbath heater, and increase the pump, or get multiple systems. I also created this system to be used in relatively temperate climates. If you are constantly in subzero temperatures, this likely won't work for you. I'd also like to note that it may be a good idea to buy a small electrical timer and simply disconnect the heater during the summer. This will cycle the water on a semi regular basis, keeping the water clean and preventing your watering system from becoming an attractant to mosquitos.

Enjoy!

Barter Item Equality Chart?

Anyone wanna have some imaginary fun and try to come up the "price" of barter items? For example, what would you trade a gallon of milk for? Or 10 rounds of ammo? What would you give me for a fish? I know it's hard to say; but lets just have fun.

Do they make a crew can long bed half ton?

I'll be done with school soon and I might be movin to montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. I'm lookin for a crew cab long bed 4x4 if they make it. Right now I have a 2wd frontier that works fine but if I move up there my job will require year round travel to job sites. Even if I don't get a job up there there's been plenty times where I had to catch a ride because my truck couldn't make it there. I prefer chevy/gmc, I love the crew cab and I'll never get a single cab. One of the biggest issues I have with my frontier is the super short bed I'm 5ft 6 and I have to put the tailgate down to lay down. I was going to put a toolbox in it since my backseat floor is full of stuff that should go in a toolbox, but then I wouldn't have a bed.

I know they make crew cab long bed diesels but do they make a 1500?

I don't want a new one I'd prefer atleast the last body style. I want to put a topper and a toolbox with an aux gas tank.

While I save money with this job I plan on building up an old 12 valve dodge diesel. PS I've been told that diesel can't run in winter I'd really like a diesel pickup too but I need reliability.

My simple solar setup for the RV video

This is my very basic setup I used to charge the batteries in the RV. This is from my learning phase as I figure out what it is going to take to do the cabin after the build.

Hope you enjoy!

Finally starting the build

It's been a while since I posted lol. Been doing to many other things besides working out at the property, but it's back on! Here's a video of how I'm doing the post and beam foundation. The 6x6 posts down about 36" on 4" or so of concrete. Very heavy clay soil. Building an 18' x 24' shell to start with. Hope you enjoy.

Spring Garden

So, the spring is here, and the seeds are planted in the vegetable patch.

I have a problem with the bird life in my area- they tend to eat the leaf plants to the ground, so, I have only put in bird proof plants.

Potatoes, carrots, onions, mielies and some herbs like garlic and spring onions.

The autumn leaves provided perfect composting material that has been ripening over the winter, so all that remains now is to sit back and watch it grow. That and keep the weeds out. We could use some rain though.

I hope all you Saffer preppers have your gardens ready to take advantage?:thumb:

Can anyone help me to understand ?

For years I have struggled with the Trinity. I think I can understand

the relationship between the Father and the Son and myself, but I cannot

grasp what is meant by the Holy Spirit. Is it my soul? Something that

is a faculty in me that I can access for help? The impulse to do good when I see need? What is It? Is it like the sunshine and shines upon us all or is

it inside myself?

CNC / Watercutting shop that does custom work (small jobs)

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any machine shops that will do custom CNC or water cutting jobs. The CAD design or blanks/models can be provided for the job and the material can be as well if needed. Does anyone know of any shops that will do small jobs and ship the product to the customer?

"low rise" mens pants

Not really a survival topic by any means, but I would love some input.

I always struggle to find pants that fit me right, there is always something uncomfortable about them. I am somewhat average build at 6'0" and 200 lbs.

The problem I have is that most pants sit way up over my belly button, and as the day progresses they "settle" down and then I end up with 2" of extra fabric hanging down. I have found the "low rise" relaxed fit jeans work the best, but I can not find a field/cargo/carpenter/tactical style of pant that works.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a low rise outdoors man's pant?

My observations on Obama speech

Obama,

You said Americas security is his highest priority......then why won't you secure the border?

You can't control ISIS through counter-terrorist tactics, you do it through war tactics.

If you hadn't abandoned Iraq, we wouldn't need a coalition now to go back.

You said America is strongest when we work together, so why are you so divisive?

We haven't done squat to curb Russian aggression, why claim so when you are talking about ISIS.

Don't say you support our people in uniform while you let one of them rot in a Mexican jail.

223 vs 556 NATO

Im sure it was discussed already, but more I research, more confusing it gets.

What is the difference and what is the advantage of one over another?

I will be getting Mossberg MVP and it should be able to handle either one.

Renouncing US citizenship is about to get a LOT more expensive....

http://ift.tt/WFwNN2

"The record numbers of Americans who have renounced their U.S. citizenship since January 2009 did so at the bargain-basement cost of $450, a subsidized fee that the State Department plans to raise sharply this week as more and more people sever their ties with the United States.

Officials say the new pricetag of $2,350 will “capture the real, unsubsidized cost of providing this service” at a time when escalating demand has put new strain on consular resources....."
