Hi all. I have a Trangia Spirit Alcohol stove.
I was using it tonight for the third time ever, so I am new to these burners. I was heating up some canned soup. About 5 to 7 min into the cook cycle, I lifted the pot off the burner to check the flame, and the thing kinda blew up. Shot alcohol and flame everywhere.
Started a small fire on my blind close by and also on my couch about 4 to 5 feet away. I used my trusty kitchen towel to put every thing out.
After everything around was put out I dropped the simmer ring on to the burner to put it out as it was still shooting flames about 24" high. The ring did not extinguish it. It actually kept burning under the ring and shot flame out the hole in the center of the rivet that the simmer ring top swivels on.
So I put on my oven mitt and removed the burner, stand and all and threw it out the door into the lawn. Then I just let it burn out.
Now, as you can see from the pics, it's very stationary and I could not have possibly tipped it. So could over filling have caused this? Any info would be helpful.
This is the burner.
