Since I have plans to bug in unless I MUST leave, I decided to build an INCH bag instead of a BOB. There are 5 of us (3 kids pre teen to teen). I figure I could carry about 75lbs and still keep up with the rest of my family while each of them carries a smaller pack. So far, I started with food procurement items, heavy on the fishing and gardening items since I am a pretty good fisherman and know a little gardening.
Let me know what you think.
Fishing kit- First let me start by saying I don't buy into the whole "small hooks can catch any size fish" deal. sure they can but usually don't. Try shoving a decent size bait onto a number 6 hook to catch an 8 pound or even a 4 pound channel cat. You might get lucky with a small worm on the hook but likely won't anything of size. Putting a big worm on a small hook = stolen bait.
50 asst. bait holders size 12-4. Should add another 50.
35 1/0 kahle hooks
25 5/0 kahle hooks
7/0 snag hook (weighted treble)
just a few split shot, corks, swivels
190 yards of 50 pound catfish line
100 yards of 6 pound
100 yards of 12 pound

yellow squash- 1 pack hybrid, 1 pack heirloom.
pineapple tomato
assorted beans- just the beans you buy in the grocery store.

1 Potato- kennebek- depending on season may have to dig one up before I leave
garlic- always have a few around and a garden full
onion- may or may not be available

hoe head
folding shovel
clear plastic to make a cold frame.
Guns
Decided on my 10/22 take down. need to get a scope on it. about 6 pounds
.22 revolver, old but reliable
9mm acp but that is more for protection
500 rounds of .22 about 3.5 pounds. not sure about these people who think they can carry 10,000 rounds.
I have not included knives, flashlights, clothes etc. because this is just about food procurement.
