Crazy situation. She's had water problems in her basement that gutters would solve, but every construction person she's talked to says "don't do it!".
My thought would be some sort of masonry trough at ground level, maybe.
Does Idaho have any restrictions on collecting rainwater? I know that where she is they fight like Turks over water. The richest lawyers in the county are the water lawyers.
She's at 5000 feet elevation, and it gets awfully cold. At that altitude an above-ground cistern WILL freeze, no two ways about it, unless you actively heat it.

my daughter was born a little over three months ago and it changed my thinking. Started becoming more concerned about making sure I can keep her and my wife safe/healthy, so here I am. Wont be posting much yet as I am just reading and reading at the moment. Thanks
I have no use for politicians, and agree that they have desire to control others, lie to get elected, big egos, have to appease their monied backers, and have to find ways to dodge accusations (founded or not). And the whole process of campaigning, convincing people, getting expensive media time, etc. Honestly, what sort of person would go into a career like that? Especially since most of them come from upper-class backgrounds with an ivy league education, many are millionaires.
If you could earn any degree you wanted at among the most prestigious universities in the country, and not worry about money -- why not get a PhD in astrobiology and hunt for aliens, cure cancer, or something else fun or beneficial for society?
Take someone like Feinstein, worth about $40 million. If I had that kind of money, I'd have nothing to do with bureaucracy, the gameplaying of campaigns and elections, wasting time in meetings, etc. An ordinary person with that kind of money would be on his pleasure yacht, or hobby farm somewhere extremely scenic, traveling, hobbies, or whatever. Politicians, especially the wealthiest ones, seem to have a bizarre value set.
Its the same concept as burning corn chip snacks like Frito's brand but dried orange or lemon peels ( skins) burn longer and seem to have been over looked as a resource for ignition as well as something to carry into your survival kits.
Buy a single orange and dry the skin as I have instructed and then make a small pile and light one at the bottom. Might take a moment but once the skins catch fire, you will be amazed at how they burn and how long they burn. Orange skins once dried....weighs almost nothing. Just a friendly tip for those who dont know about this little secret
Dehydrated meals are not bad, depending. Some do not have the caloric content you would need to live on them exclusively. You have to be sure and read the package.
The shelf life of dehydrated meals varies. Some advertise up to 35 years. I have not tested that,,, yet. But I have tried some I have had in storage for about 8 years and they were fine.
LOL I'm trying this. Had a small pile of dead grass from last year's mowing. I threw a couple old store bought russets into the pile that were growing and and bound for the trash. They've started to grow so I scooped up some of the surrounding dead grass pile to hill them and that grass has mostly composted. I think I'll keep this going to see what I get in the fall. I'll post a current photo tomorrow.

I can anticipate the response from the pro-pot crowd. That evidence is all a lie. Yeah, ok.
I just have a hard time taking it seriously when most advocates that I know personally claim that smoking a joint "kills" cancer, "cures" MS, "reverses" aging and does myriad other wonders for the human body. They can't just say "it stimulates appetite in cancer patients" or "helps people with glaucoma" or something sensible and true like that. That's not enough. They have to outright claim that it's the wonder cure for everything and accuse you of lies and stupidity if you don't acquiesce to their enlightened wisdom.
Extractor, ejector, springs and pins in the bolt and trigger assembly, etc. in case something ever needed to be replaced or upgraded.
Also. If the rear ghost ring sight is removed, is the receiver drilled in the same spots as an 870, enabling me to add a scope pic rail or anything like that? Thanks!
I live in Indiana, pretty much right smack in the middle of the state. My son and his family recently moved in with me and my whole life changed.
I'd never really been motivated by my own survival. But the survival of my grandkids? Yeah, now I'm totally motivated. Luckily, I'm a reader and a lover of the great outdoors, so it isn't like I'm starting totally from scratch. And my son has always been an outdoorsman, so between the two of us we pretty much have the whole survival thing whipped. (At least we hope so)
Of course, that is part of why I'm here, to bone up on my survival information and glean new tips from all of you wonderful people.
I did get 12 live chicks from the hatch of approximately 42 eggs.

I see tinfoil hatters talk about "the government" coming to take their *whatever.... (food, guns, tractors, gold.... you name it)
HOW? Logistics aren't there.
Black helos aren't going to circle your house at 2AM unless your REALLY dumb and are a fraction of a % of the populace.
For everyone ELSE it would have to be the local authority.
I've posted a couple times about how I joined the local VFD, they gave me a radio that allows me to listen to just the FD, or dispatch and EVERYTHING in the county (got called out last night, so reminded me to make this post)
Confiscation couldn't happen without communication, so what? Cops I help at traffic accidents and domestics (last night was a unresponsive women due to... pharmaceuticals) are going to get on the radio (that I have access to) and coordinate with each other to come raid the guy who always keeps snacks and drinks in the back of his truck!?!
It's just absurd paranoia, but is a VERY good reason to get involved in. Your local community.
I showed up last night without taking the time to take my gun off. (G23 with light in a OWB VERY overt retention holster. -not the first guy to show up without taking his gun off.)
Nobody said a word.
Join the community, make a difference, and get plugged into the system. Worst case scinario you know what's going on, get training, and have people to rep for you should need be. (I get my milk from the fire chief.)
Sorry, I couldn't resist that.
But it really does depend on a lot of things - was it a long simmering, very calm "I have now officially had it" with this "whatever caused the problemS" or was it a hot headed, slam your phone in your pocket and yell "if I don't get pizza twice a week it is over" kind of thing.
And it gets more complicated than that. I can't imagine any two scenarios being the same. There are always nuances and backstories that clear up the little questions on whether one or both would think that was a permanent move.
Personally if someone did that to me, it would be a one way trip out the door for one of us. I am assuming here that there have been problems in the past and reconciliation of your disagreement was futile. Once leaving is brought up it hangs there every time you don't agree on something, the implied threat. And if two people ALWAYS agree on everything, one of them is either dead, doesn't care one way or the other, or is just biding their time.
When it comes to knives and my axes I just can't seem to get it.
I've used a bench grinder, rod and sand paper. I'm about to order a stone but don't know what I'm looking for. Any recommendations? I'd like to get one off eBay as they have quite a few.
I have researched, read articles, watched videos and I just can't seem to get it. With the experienced people here I figure it makes sense to get some feedback, and I seem to learn better when I can ask questions. I know I should have probably tried a stone by now however I just tried the other ways.
So again, any recommendations on what I'm looking for for a stone? Or, are there other tools I should consider first?
I appreciate any suggestions.
One of the interesting things about Europe is that along with the obivously rich culture each country also has its own junk silver. Some if it though, has a pretty dark origin.
Here in Spain the last junk silver was made in the 60s and pictured general Franco's image. They are actually pretty nice, big 100 pesetas coins .800 silver. The price is usually pretty good, very close to spot. Then again, Franco "Leader of Spain by the Grace of God" as the coin says, wasnt exaclty a nice guy. Then you have German junk silver, wich is .900, but then many Reichmarks have the eagle above a swastika within wreath that reeks evil.
In America this is a non issue given that American pre 65 is clearly the way to go but I was wondering what oyu think.
Would you buy this kind of junk silver, overlook the historic and simbolic context and just look at the metal? Would you accept it as payment?

- A 3 or 4 day weekend for no apparent reason
- A chance to clog the highways driving to a cookout you don't actually want to attend, hosted by people you can't stand, featuring foods that make you sick
- A bunch of drunks causing accidents, despite the police working overtime and buying ad time to warn that they will be out in force
If we're not going to honor the intent of the holiday, we should just repeal it.
