We take in rescue animals dogs and cats they get physicals which includes a full body X-rays. Almost to an animal there is birdshot under the skin and in the musculature. We've not seen an animal with a solid projectile. With one caveat I watched as a inmate (animal in the biological sense) popped a 380 projectile from under his skin when it came out he looked at it and says " damn, I forgot about that." He had caught it in the outer hip 15 years prior.

Point is birdshot hasn't enough penetration. Report the incident. Establish a history. a dog that makes it back to the house gets expensive for the shooter. Even when it's after you kid.
