22LR for hogs, deer, medium game

Super flame thread potential but just wanted to get others experiences on use of the humble 22LR rifle in situations where its to be used on medium game. Certainly its not suitable for regular ideas of modern hunting, which is a bodyshot out to 300 yards with a high powered expanding bullet, however there is a difference between regular shots and special circumstances...

Here a lot of plague proportion animals are professionally culled by head shot. As were our crocodiles back in the day. While not in the class of a centrefire, a 22LR will penetrate most animal skulls with careful placement out to 40-50yards.

Some folks seem highly offended by this idea... yet have no problem with longbow guys taking even longer to get closer for their arrows to hit accurately..

Also a dedicated 22LR guy is usually a very careful hunter, not a spray and prayer. The worst wounders in my country are actually the next level up- 22 centrefires(223 etc), because too many guys try and use them like medium bores with bodyshots, that sometimes don't work out.
