Flip up magnifiers

Never used one and was thinking about trying one out...

Couple questions first, Doesn't the dot get magnified as well? Effectively turning a 2 MOA dot into a 6 or 12 MOA dot (with 3x or 6x)? I wouldn't think that would help much?

Bottom line, are they a good idea or just better to go with a magnified optic to begin with?
