Grand Junction losing business

In the last year, we have lost Kmart, Sports Authority, Albertsons (Safeway bought them out I guess), now I just saw a sign yesterday where both Office Max and Office Depot are going out of business.

Had several long-time local business that have recently closed up shop, like a vacuum-sewing center that was around for 40 years or so; shoe maker and repair closed up....They were there one month, and when I went to pick up some supplies a month or so ago, they were gone. They didn't retire, they moved to a new location, and then poof! Were gone.

There are lots of office buildings around vacant and no one moving in. One big complex where I had a studio a couple years ago, still remains vacant and for sale, after 4 years.

Lots of houses for sale.

Local small dealer I go to for a coin now and then said no one is buying, everybody is selling their gold and silver coins, and they had to take out a personal loan to get money for the business because so many were selling.

How about where you are? What is your local business climate like?
