Cows are dual purpose... save money and make money (haven't yet, takes time.)
People around here make money from raising animals, firewood, logging, speciality saw mill (large boards, custom sizes/materials etc) custom furnature maker,
One guy made $1k at the farmers market from leftovers from his garden. Plans on planting more next year and upping it to $5k.
Another friend in my bee club is growing/selling queens.
Her husband makes custom lamps out of driftwood, wall hanger guns, we all are doing tanning together (people pay $5-$15 for coon penis bones as an odd side note.) And he sells the hides at the gunshows we go to.
Several of us do salvage, clean outs, suctions, etc.
One buddy buys estates and sells them off.
There's all kinds of odd ways to make a buck.
