I'd cut the Brits some slack.

"The best way to avoid an emergency is to not be there when one happens."

Unless it's a familiar bible verse that most Christians would recognize, most other people couldn't tell if it was a Bible, a Koran (Quran), or some other religious text. All most Londoners know is that lately all sorts of weird and tragic crap has been happening in the name of god, committed by true believers of one stripe or another.

So when someone starts getting their religion on in an enclosed space, Brits can be forgiven for expecting a loud explosion to punctuate the reading at any moment.

I might have left the premises myself. As noted above, it wouldn't be the first time that bags, packages, and people have exploded on the London tube.

The reader may have been making a point, but I'd have him arrested for inciting a public disturbance. You want to get your religion on? Do it in a way that doesn't alarm people. All the attacks by Muslim extremists in London over the past 12 months have the public on edge, for understandable reasons.

Just MHO. YMMV.
