Do I have to store each cartridge in containers?

The ammo cardboard boxes that I buy from the store are packed very nicely with foam around each bullet, the problem however is that if I want to store these at a sneaky location they take incredibly much space...

so, I was wondering, would it be ok to just pour ammo like rice without protection around each bullet?

Especially for a sealed PVC cache it would have been awesome to first neatly pack all the larger things, then just fill up all the gaps by pouring down ammo as if it was packaging foam.

My guess is that it's ok as long as it's FMJ and not HP (some of my hps look very messed up the moment they dent into something), is that true?
