First call was to a large appliance parts place about 20 miles away. Yes, they had the Samsung igniter for about $125 BUT they also had a generic one made by GE for Frigidaire for $35. "Bring in the old part and we'll compare the two to see if we can save you some money." Done deal. Fortunately hooking it up to the electrical is plug-and-play.
Well, she found how to remove the oven door and the oven floor but the igniter was kind of behind and slightly under a second floor plate and very unhandy to get to. Day One saw the old part finally removed but one of the two nuts/bolts slipped and fell into Nowhereville. Day Two involved a trip to the hardware store for several replacement nuts/bolts. Wrong ones. Day Three, today, was grocery day so several more nuts/bolts were bought while in town and the repair process began this afternoon.
I stay away when her repair processes are going on. It's a wise move. So I heard the air turn blue a few times before the part was finally replaced. Then it was the oven door that didn't want to reseat itself properly and the oven won't heat up while the oven door is open. After umpty tries over a half hour with both of us trying, she finally got it to seat and turned the oven on. TA-DAAAA! We now have a workable oven again.
Ladies, do not even consider a Samsung oven. They might make spectacular phones but their ranges are the pits. We usually read a lot of customer reviews before buying big stuff but in the haste of having to get a new stove quickly, that step wasn't followed. It was only after the oven quit this second time that 5th Gear started reading them and geez! Nothing but complaints ranging from bad parts, actual fires when the self cleaning function is turned on and pending lawsuits.
I'm just real proud of Fix-It 5th Gear and her determination! We're almost out of bread so I need to get cracking tomorrow and bake more. :D
