My girlfriend's toilet bowl seems to be trying to tell me something, and I'm not smart enough to fully understand it....
Clean the bowl, entirely, under rim, everything, with wayyyy too much bleach. Flush. City water, can definitely taste the chlorine, chloramines, whatever. Seat down, lid up. Spare bath, not used much. Interior room, no direct sunlight but not pitch black either. 72 degree air conditioned apartment. Return 5-6 days later, there is a film on the surface - my best description is like the top of gravy when it cools, only thinner.
So ... does this happen when you store water in your barrels/drums/tanks? I read things like "X capfuls bleach per X gallons every 4 months". Toilet had treated water that "filmed over" in 5-6 days, so does chlorine really last that long? If it doesn't "film over" in your barrels, why not? Is your barrel water being stored for drinking, or for other purposes?
