If there’s ever a shtf scenario what can a Long Islander do other than bug in? If the land routes are open (ie not destroyed, infected, irradiated) there’s gonna be the biggest bottleneck in history. It’s gonna be a mean and ugly traffic jam. Possibly preventing an escape, at least right away. I can only imagine bugging in and waiting the event out before bugging out. How long do you think and Long Islander would have to wait/bug in? |
Floating might work. Depending on weather. By boat you can head south, north or make the dash for NY/CT coast. Obviously, anything other than just crossing the sound means a decent sized vessel with plenty of fuel or sails. Gear will be drastically limited to non-existent via small plane, maybe decent amount on boat unless you're talking about a kayak.
Which, brings us to your more extreme option... something like a kayak. You'll leave almost everything behind. And you'll have a long paddle, but it's do-able; though especially weather dependent. And if you don't know how to paddle and handle self rescue in case of capsize, then you may be as or more likely to die from the passage attempt vs. the original SHTF problem.
What is a Long Islander to do?
