What is a Long Islander to do?

How long do you think and Long Islander would have to wait/bug in?

This has come up before. Unless you have access to something that floats or flies, you've got a problem. And depending on SHTF scenario, flight might be challenging. (If anything flying would be intercepted for example; though this is low probability. That is, even in a slow plane, it's no more that 10-15 minutes to make it to CT or NY coast. So even if illegal due to flight restrictions, you might be able to make it if you just don't care.) (I'm assuming you wouldn't want to try for Block. It's still an island after all, and chances are good if thing's are really bad, someone there might just be taking shots at inbound outsiders anyway.)

Floating might work. Depending on weather. By boat you can head south, north or make the dash for NY/CT coast. Obviously, anything other than just crossing the sound means a decent sized vessel with plenty of fuel or sails. Gear will be drastically limited to non-existent via small plane, maybe decent amount on boat unless you're talking about a kayak.

Which, brings us to your more extreme option... something like a kayak. You'll leave almost everything behind. And you'll have a long paddle, but it's do-able; though especially weather dependent. And if you don't know how to paddle and handle self rescue in case of capsize, then you may be as or more likely to die from the passage attempt vs. the original SHTF problem.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
