Paper towels still plenty in stock.
Last week the side wall was half full of toilet paper. An employee said people were buying almost none of it. Went today, and half of their stock was gone. So wen went from full shelves, to half gone in a week. Previous weeks the shelves were full also.
Some of you may wonder why I reference Dollar General a lot. That is because they have moved into the rural areas. Driving a few miles beats driving 20 miles to the local walmart of full sized grocery store.

Went outside, heard my 870 racking down at the greenhouse.
Found my wife stalking the garden with the less than lethal shotgun in magpul orange.
She had seen a bear inside the wire and was fighting it off with rubber buck.
(I've shot bears half a dozen times in the past couple weeks, its ridiculous up here)
There was almost no damage done this time, but I did find this in the wall of the greenhouse:
So, I spent tonight, in the rain, in chest high grass setting trip wires and motion alarms for Mrs bear as it seems she is determined to make trouble. (my neighbors had a window frame pulled out of the wall by this bear and a cabinet in their house destroyed by the bear going after dog food.)
This seems like a good time to share my version of the common grenade top , shotgun primer, tripwire alarm.
The normal pull pin system always bugged me as it seemed like it took a lot of force to pull the pin and there was no easy way to hook up the top on a wire so it didn't bind when the pin was pulled.
This is my version, the bail top trip alarm. The picture is pretty self explanatory. I use 16 gauge aluminum electric fence wire. This set up takes significantly less force than the pull pin method and does not require a solid mount, the detonator can be placed anywhere along the wire.
As usual, be careful when doing this. Blow up a primer in your fingers and it would hurt pretty badly I think and leave your ears ringing.

Yet since the Obama era stores have gone to the same punk clothes and we stopped shopping at the malls as we tried to avoid Amazon for the longest time. We didn't join till 2013. God has it been THAT long?
The free market was about stores competing with each other and giving unique services to attract that loyal base without chewing each other out. Now it's all owned by the same factory that seems to do the same stuff.

The America I grew up in is LONG gone and I feel I'm in an alien world having to learn a new culture like when you go to Europe and you accidentally plug in the wrong voltage. I feel humanity is in the wrong voltage slot now.

buying land in Vegaswasn't sure wasn't sure where to post it hopefully this is a good forum for it essentially I'm looking to buy land in Vegas and and go off-grid I live here I am aware there's no water I heard our story from a friend of mine this one guy was living on private land and then after about 20 years I told him he needed to be connected to to the city's water supply or you would have to move so he sold so he sold and left so he sold and left . Looking within 50 miles of Vegas that you could be off the grid and be left alone. almost seems easier to buy a camper and just go on BLM land until you have to move if you cannot be left alone on your own property. Any advice much appreciated

On a standard shotgun mag tube, a +2 would keep the end behind the muzzle on an 18" barrel. A +3 would put it a little ahead, or work for a 20" barrel.
Though I see lot's of gamers (3 gun) having mag tubes longer than the barrel, I guess that's a thing now.

I just got off the phone with a friend and former coworker, after he had a bit of a close call. This morning he was forced to pull his carry gun in self defense, which fortunately did not require firing any shots.
After making the appropriate reports and such, he was at home and decided to field strip his EDC to clean and oil it, since he hadn't for a while. Well, when he went to clear it, he discovered that there was no round in the chamber. For some, this may not be abnormal, but for him it is. His pistol is an SR1911, which he keeps "cocked and locked."
So I just want to remind everyone to check their carry gun before strapping it on in the morning, because things happen, and there's nothing worse than hearing a click when you need a bang.

I will insulate and vapor barrier a small room in the northeast corner of a walkout basement. My initial plan was to put a wire-mesh covered PVC pipe straight out the side of the house with a mechanical valve to pipe in free cold air throughout late fall, winter, and early spring. All the advice I have been given is to automate this and use a heat pump instead to maintain the approximately 40 degrees required. The other issue is how to keep the humidity at 85-90%. The commercial humidifiers I have found have a maximum of about 45%. Has anyone built indoor root cellars like this and what advice do you have?

Airsoft guns and protesters
No one was arrested but a tragedly was only narrowly averted. I am surprised and relieved that no one was shot. The problem is that airsoft guns of all makes are customer driven to look realisric as possible and wiegh the same as the actual firearm they are imitating, so they do, at 1/2 to 1/10 th the retail price. Thier customer base is mixed between fanboys, mall ninjas, prepper / survivalist groups, vets wanting to preserve hard won skills and organised hobbyists who enjoy a death free form of combat.
For 2A folks like us, why not? From a safety perspective, to me it seems like a future justified shooting riot. Those cops thought 100% that the protestors were locked and loaded and fomenting insurrection. Upon finding out the truth, I hear that all were rattled. My question is, what would happen in your state? What laws cover realistic non-firearms in cases of brandishing (pointing) and threats or police shootings (John Crawford in Bravercreek Walmart)?

How to make Rustic Multigrain Bread
Like most yeast bread recipes, this rustic multigrain bread takes some time to make. But it’s not difficult! And it’s definitely a recipe for all levels of skill. Let’s break down the steps:
1. Soak bulgur wheat with water to soften it.
2. Heat more water with the honey and butter until warm and butter is melted. This warm mixture is what will activate the yeast so it can start working its magic.
3. Add all of the ingredients except for the all-purpose flour to the bowl of a stand mixer (if you plan to knead with a dough hook, or in a large bowl if kneading by hand) and combine to make a wet dough.
4. Start kneading the dough, adding the all-purpose flour a little at a time. Add only enough flour so the dough clears the side of the bowl but still feels tacky. You may need less than 1 cup, you may need a lot more. Every time I make a loaf it’s different!
5. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and doesn’t break immediately when you stretch it.
6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for about 1 hour until it’s doubled in size.
7. Gently punch down the dough to release the trapped air, knead it a few times and bring it back into a ball.
8. Place it in a dutch oven or large oven-proof pot with a lid and brush with egg wash and sprinkle with oats. Use a sharp knife to slice 3 cuts into the top of the bread. These cuts will help control the rise of the bread in the oven so it’s doesn’t burst open at a random spot.
9. Let rise for another half hour or so, while you preheat the oven to 425°F.
10. When ready to bake cover pot with the lid and put in oven (you may need to lower the oven rack to make room). Reduce oven temp to 400°F.
11. After about 45 minutes of baking, bread should be slightly golden on top and baked all the way through.
12. Remove from the pot and try to resist cutting into it until it has cooled.
