Best way for light during a dark winter.

Solar panel to charge a fairly large deep cycle battery, wired to individual or string of LED'S, will provide fairly bright light.
(if you have occasional grid power, use that to keep the battery charge topped off)

If ventilated, a Coleman duel fuel lantern provides very bright light.

As back-up's vintage type oil lamps.
