It worked out that the increased fuel consumption if you drive all day just about broke even with a hotel bill. RV park fees add to the cost, but cooking for your self is cheaper.
The nice part is you never have to pack/unpack each night if you are traveling. They had waterproof totes that they stacked under the 5th wheel opening that they fitted an snap on cover. Made for easy storage of all the extra gear like winter clothes, books, tapes, movies, storage food, emergency supplies.
They spent a winter in Idaho when mom was down with a broken hip/shoulder. After 2 weeks of propane heat, I bought them a small ceramic heater. It would run you out if it was turned up. Space rent at the RV park included electricity so their heat was now free. The next week we installed an electric element in the propane water heater - again free to operate at the park. The refrigerator was 12VDC, propane or 120 VAC again free to use in the lot.
I'm 6'2" about 220#. I have spent weeks in the unit used as the guest house. I bang my head and elbows daily in the unit, but it is warm/cool and dry. I would rather live in a GP small military tent. I did weeks at a time in one even during German -30 winters. And yes we did move often as Tacticle Radio Relay and Carrier operators - setting up the tent is about as fast as leveling the RV.
