Question about a surefire Light and bracket,

this one is a Surefire Helmet Light,HL-1-C TN white ,Blue and IR single 123 battery. these are way after my time. Face it, when i was active they were still using the OD angle head flashlights (bakalight, still have one) came across one at a real good price, but had some questions, ::
#1. Is it a battery vampire, (does it eat 123 batts like candy)
#2 will it stay in place (once clamp is in place)
#3 is light output actually usable ( Brite or dull glow, less than a foot visability or brite enough to use H to H.

I have a St Maximus headlight I use currently was going to pick this up as a spare, I just need to know if its a Viable Backup,or more a pain than its worth.....
