The Forgotten Soldier
This book is by Guy Sajer. Its an in depth and highly detailed recount of a French born German Soldier at the brink of WWII who volunteered to join the SS just so he can gain the bargain of going home for 2 weeks worth of leave time and was thrust into the fires of WWII from Poland to Stalingrad. Insanely detailed the author recounts how he must stop telling his tales due to it bringing back memories. Very emotional and violently graphic...this book will make you feel cold and hungry and will raise your eye brows due to the intensity. Try to imagine the first time you witnessed Saving Private Ryan and magnify this by about 5......best book I have ever read.
