Determining land size?

My wife & I are trying to sort out where we want to live. We are currently in Ohio and have toyed with buying land here or moving out of state.

I work in a building that is approximately 120,000 sq ft. I use that to get a rough idea of how big an acre is....but a couple acres looks much smaller when it is a field.

We want to build a house, ranch around 2000 sq ft. I would like a steel building, maybe around 30 x 40.

I would also like a pond, maybe around 3 acres.

I was thinking that 10 acres would be fine. What are your thoughts?

I do not plan on doing the whole off-grid/homestead thing. However, at some point I would like to create a nice sized garden and have chickens.
