If conservatives pushed for separation, can you imagine how negatively that would be painted? The media would be screaming that we want to restore slavery.

The only way this can happen is for leftists to push for it. This is a special, rare, "total solar eclipse" type situation where some leftists want it, because they are so shaken up by Trump. We will never have an opportunity like this again in our lifetimes.

I think the conservative response should be "well, if you think that's what's best for California, we won't stand in your way. If it happens, we will gladly sign a mutual defense treaty, a free trade treaty and an open border treaty with the California Republic." And try not to chortle and high-five in public.
