Investing all your savings in untraceable STHF gear?

I have some savings that I want to "invest" so I've been doing a lot of planning lately about potentially buying a home instead of renting, but one of the things I really don't like about owning property is how easy target you are to the government.

For example here in New Zealand if a girlfriend moves in with you she may now owe half of your home (even if you're not married, even if she hasn't paid anything etc), it's called "defacto relationship" which basically means "you didn't marry but we're going to count it like you did anyway" (sometimes you need to have lived togheter for 3 years, but it's up to the court to decide if the 3 year requirement should be waved or not).

That's just 1 single example, but basically my point is of course the government want you to put all your investments into your property because it's the easiest thing in the world to control you with, you cannot hide it, you can't sell it on a black market, you can't flee with it to a new country, you can't pretend it's not yours.

I'm starting to think that in todays/tomorrows world the only sane investment is things that can't be traced, to appear to be a poor bastard on paper, yet have caches and inventory that can equal quite high in value if only the government knew about it.

Whaddaya think?
