The roles are...
All Arounder
Long-Range
Conceal Carry
Combat Handgun (sidearm to your go-to long gun)
Backpacking Gun
Plinking Gun
Shotgun
Feel free to add any I left out or combine any of the above but I think that covers it. Here is my list...
All Arounder AK-47
My personal AK has had its wood furniture replaced with polymer its iron sights replaced with Tech Sights and the addition of a bipod foregrip and laser light combo as well as a Bumpski Stock. I decided when putting it together to keep the gun generalized but want to go for a focus on volume fire over precision fire but still keep it a good all arounder.
Long Range M1A
This is my next gun to buy and I feel a better choice than most bolt guns as if you get caught in a close-up fight it can give you a chance against something like an AR or AK whereas if you get caught with a bolt or lever gun you are in trouble. I also think ever having a situation where you have a target over 600 yards away from you is a bit of a snipers fantasy and I don't think most of us on this forum would benefit from the slight accuracy increase a bolt or lever gun offers. I would likely go for a 18in polymer model and add a scope and bipod but keep it stock otherwise.
Combat Handgun FNX .45 TAC
This is likely my favorite gun that I own. I put a light on it and replaced the stock irons with snake eyes sights. Eventually, I hope to get a suppressor for it also.
Conceal Carry Glock 30s
I got this one to pair with my FNX and its a good sidearm in my opinion. The only thing I changed on it is the iron sights with some Tru Glows but other than that it is stock.
Backpacking/Plinking Gun SU-16C or RDB
Personally, I am just not an AR guy and I kind of consider most of Kel Tecs stuff in 5.56 to be ARs for people that don't want ARs. I can't decide between the 2 guns as I haven't really handled ether very much and the RDB costs so much more I think I would likely go with the SU-16C unless someone can give me a good reason otherwise. Other than an electronic optic I don't think I would do anything to either of these.
Shotgun KSG-25
I am not a shotgun person. To me, there are simply too many tradeoffs within the category of shotgun having break actions at one end (reliable and can take almost anything) and guns like the saga at the other (quick reload high capacity) with little in between them. The KSG is the closest thing I have seen to a compromise between the two. My issue when I first picked it up, however, it is LIGHT for a shotgun the KSG-25 fixes that issue however and I think short of a concept in my head is the best I can do. I think I would just add a foregrip to it and maybe consider electronic optics.
Other
There are 3 other guns that don't fit neatly into any category but I feel are worth mentioning. 1st is the Glock 17 or 19 (forget what gun is the full size) as a prepper having a common 9mm gun is kind of a must even if it ends up as little more than a safe queen due to personal preferences. The next 2 are the Chippa Rhino (.357mag) and Ruger LCR9. I am considering these as a backup pocket sidearm but am unsure if I will like the Rhino as a pocket gun. Even if I end up getting an LCR9 to fill this role I would likely get a Rhino just to have something in .357 but not the other way around.
What are your ideal guns?
