There's Only One Way to Have Eternal Life - the Savior of the World

Holy Bible - John 14:6 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to have eternal life in the kingdom of Heaven. All others will die in their sins, unforgiven, with the wrath of God on them for the evil they have done and their unbelief.

This is the greatest reality, the ultimate reality. Eternal life, or eternal fire. Every sole will experience eternity - life and reward, or punishment, torment, or torture.

Holy Bible - Matthew 6:33 KJB
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Only the righteous will inherit eternal life. Christians are to practice righteousness.
1 John 3:7-8 (ESV)
"7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil."

Any cartridge box collectors here?

Any cartridge box collectors here?

I picked up some .30 Carbine out of an estate sale today. At 13 cents a round I figured that they would be worth the components. Some of the boxes were partials that I consolidated. I started to throw out the boxes and decide to look them up as I had never seen any like them.

I was surprised to see the several years ago someone paid $20 for one of the boxes in worse shape with 13 nasty looking rounds in them. (Mine look fine. )

Just wonder if that was a fluke of if these boxes have any value? (other than holding the ammo together. )

A Brief History of US Money

Continental Congress in 1775 issued the Continental Currency. The US dollar was created as the standard unit. The term dollar came from the Spanish dollar.

By 1778 the Continental Currency had lost about 5/6th of its original value. By 1780 the Continental has lost 39/40th of its face value. By May 1781 the Continental Currency was worthless. Franklin said the depreciation of the currency was the tax that paid for the revolutionary war.

After the ratification of the Constitution, Continentals were exchanged for treasury bonds at 1% of face value.

Robert Morris (Superintendent of Finance of the US) with his own money created the Bank of North America, notes issued in his own name and financing from France. Then in 1785 the Continental Congress issued the US dollar.

Because of the collapse of the Continental Currency the gold and silver clause was included in the Constitution and prohibiting states from issuing anything but gold and silver coins as legal tender for debt payments aka taxes. The argument to prohibit federal paper money was defeated.

The Coin Act of 1792 was passed creating the US Mint. The mint had the authority to stamp any precious metal into standard coinage for anyone. There was no charge except for refining as necessary to meet the standard. The Department of the Treasury was created in 1981. The dollar remained the unit of account.

The value of gold increased in relationship to silver thus resulting in the melting of gold coins in the early 1800s. (Gresham's law is a monetary principle stating that "bad money drives out good".) This caused the Coin Act of 1834 to change the silver-gold ratio from 15:1 to 16:1. Thus the weight of gold per USD was reduced.

This created a new USD backed by 1.5 grams of gold. The old weight was 1.5 grams of gold per USD. This revaluation of the USD reduced the value in gold by 6%. This temporarily made both gold and silver coins money (generally accepted as a mode of exchange for goods and services.)

In 1853 the weights of all US silver coins below the US dollar was reduced. This action put the nation on the gold standard although this was not an official act. This made the USD by weight a bimetallism system, which caused the silver dollar to drop from the money supply, as was the case with gold in the early 1800s. (Gresham's law is a monetary principle stating that "bad money drives out good".) Foreign coins were widely used as money and accepted as legal tender until 1857.

By the end of the Civil War the USD had become the sole currency of the US as it is today.

The Bland-Allison Act required the government to buy between two and four million dollars per month of silver bullion at market prices and coin then into silver dollars. This was to subsidize silver producers.

When large silver deposits were discovered. Farm interest wanted to retain the bimetallic standard, which would inflate the USD and make farm debt easier to repay. Banking and commercial interest wanted to move to a gold only standard. Note the then common man wanted a non-gold standard and the wealthy wanted the gold standard. In spite of the opposition from 1873 to 1900, legislation chipped away the bimetallic system and the gold standard was adopted. With only some small changes the gold standard remained until 1971.

The Gold Standard Act was passed in 1900: “the dollar consisting of twenty-five and eight-tenths grains (1.67 g) of gold nine-tenths fine, as established by section thirty-five hundred and eleven of the Revised Statutes of the United States, shall be the standard unit of value, and all forms of money issued or coined by the United States shall be maintained at a parity of value with this standard” (That is the wording it is hard for me to follow which is why I quoted it.)

The USD was guaranteed convertible to 1.5 grams of gold. This standard was suspended twice during WWI. Once was a complete suspension and once for foreign exchange. The US companies had large debts payable to Europeans. This resulted in payment of those debts in gold. At one time the British pound exchange rate was as high a $6.75 while gold was less than $4.87. Gold was gushing out of the US at every level. This resulted in the Aldrich-Vreeland Act and creation of the Federal Reserve. The new Federal Reserve was able to restore the gold standard by the end of 1914.

By neither importing nor exporting gold between 1915 and 1917 the US was the only country to remain on the gold standard. It was the Federal Reserve and President Wilson who ban gold exports and suspended the gold standard for foreign exchange.

Every major global currency abandon the gold standard during the Depression. Demand for gold threatened monetary systems. To protect the gold standard the Fed was forced to increase interest rates. Runs on US banks began and gold was hoarded removing even more gold from the system.

Because of gold deflation Congress passed a number of acts suspending the gold standard except for foreign exchange. Gold was revoked as legal tender for debts; private ownership of large amounts of gold coins was ban. In all 7 acts and executive orders were upheld by the US Supreme Court in 1935.

The $20.67 per ounce foreign exchange rate was lifted and the USD was free to float with no set value in foreign exchange markets. This lasted for a year then the Gold Reserve Act set the gold dollar value at $35/oz. (112.53¢/g). This resulted in the USD being more attractive for foreign buyers. More foreign currencies were converted from gold to USDs and the US cornered the world gold market.

Post WWII the Bretton Woods system resulted in all other currencies being valued in USDs and therefore linked to the gold standard. This became a complicated process.

This greatly complicated foreign trade and unbalanced foreign currency conversions began to show profiteering opportunities. In 1968 attempts to regulate private markets were abandon. This resulted in central bank transaction in gold were conducted separate form market place prices. Central banks continued to trade gold at $35/oz. while market prices floated. Market prices jumped to $43/oz. then steeply increased to a $70/oz. in 1972. This forced the end of the dual system and Bretton Wood system. By 1973 gold was $100/oz.

Because of inflation, oil prices, Vietnam War, and other government spending plus balance of trade deficits the USD was worth less than the gold price used to back the USD. This led to President Nixon cancelling conversion of the USD to gold.

After the collapse of Bretton woods there was a sudden increase in gold prices. This increase in inflation was a result of government spending and debt not the USD, gold, or money. As history proved before gold could not stop government spending but it could strangle the common man and the economy.

The result has been that both gold and the USD has floated based on their individual commodity exchanges.

There have been several attempts do attack the USD. The plan behind the Euro was to replace the USD as the globe’s money on which all commodities and currencies are quoted against. BRICS was an attempt by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to knock off the USD. The main reason each of these has failed is sovereignty. To work money must have one sovereign entity not several with separate interest.

The issue of Lenin Atheist Idolatry in Russia

I like this priest solution: Lenin to be buried on the dark side of the Moon

https://russian-faith.com/lenin-was-...-smirnov-n1591

I always said that Putin is an atheist criminal that only due to convenience is allied to the Great Russian Orthodox Church. Things should be made clear in Russia regarding the Communist heritage and the Church should press him on this.

Stalin is treated the same as an idol of the Communists (and Imperialists). He should be denounced for his treatment of the Church. Putin should spearhead the denouncements of Lenin, Stalin and Communism and atheism but he will never do it, for he is exactly that.

Prepping plans for 2019?

Last year (2018) I focused a lot on my garden and fishing.

2019 I need to get a work shop built, and start on a pole barn. As some of you may know I have been talking about fencing off several acres for livestock - that is something I would like to do in 2019.

Mounting Fire Extinguisher and Tools in Bed - Ideas?

Let me preface this by saying I know all truck beds are different. Safe ways of mounting tooling, fire extiguishers, etc. are going to be different in each type of truck due to bed wall thickness or how close it is to the outside body of truck.

I recently purchase a new Ram 2500. I traded in Ram 1500 that I had most of this stuff in a tool box. I went with the swing boxes on this truck and have some stuff in there. I want to mount a shovel and a fire extinguisher in the bed of the truck. I have a cover on the bed so exposure or theft is not an issue. I am concerned with 2 things. Drilling holes/mounts without drilling holes, or safe places to drill holes. And vibration causing loosening or noise from banging into the bed.

What have you done on your trucks for mounting specifically? Any recommended brackets or mounts?

Thanks,

DTO

Dirtfishing finds for 2018

I made it out to some of the local parks this year, maybe a half dozen times.
Lots of clad and a few silvers, 50+ wheaties, couple tokens. Great hobby and quite relaxing.

I’ve dug several hundred silvers in the last ten years, countless other old coins and hundreds of dollars in change.

Who has a permanate flagpole?

I've always tried to have a flag.Just the type that mounts to the wall next to the front door, have a spotlight for it if I leave it out overnight.Being in Fl.,I have to replace the flag 2-4x a year as it weathers.(Thanks VFW for the drop off for the old ones)

Anyway,I alway wanted a nice upright pole mounted in the front yard.Been surfing the net for prices, styles, and ideas. Then I've been paying better attention driving everyday of what other people have.

Like everything, some are great, others OK,and some suck. The biggest problem I see is some people just keep an old tattered on up for years without a thought.Another is that with no breeze,it just lays there. With my wall mount, its at 45 degrees,so you can always see it.

Just looking for some comments on pros and cons or ideas.

I have the money for it,and don't plan on moving, but now that I can,I don't know if I want to.

The Thunderclap

It's a warm December in Tennessee. Still, the thunderclap came from nowhere. It had an odd sound that kept rumbling and seemed to shake the house.

It sounded like incoming fire. My husband hit the floor.

Gaskets for flip - swing top glass bottles

FYI > are called Grolsch Gaskets.

Over the years I accumulated a lot of flip - swing top reusable bottles.
For bottling/table-setting-serving liquefied condiments, BBQ sauce, catchup, mustard, beer, kombucha, DIY carbonated beverages etc., at our BOL.(where at full capacity we serve meals for 20 to 25)

Some I acquired lacking gaskets & in time many that had them wore out.

Simply stated, we live in a disposable squeeze bottle world.
Which are not built to last & difficult to sterilize.

So, I set about finding high quality replacements.

These are the BEST I came up with.
So, if you ever need any, here you go.

Just got my first silver coins

Congrats on your first buy and first step. We buy and hold silver coins for a way to keep some kind of real money on hand if ever needed. We keep dimes, quarters, half-dollars and silver dollars. We had a few coins that we found in our change and got a few from family members when they passed.

For us, this type of prep is lower priority and gets a little attention each year. A few coins at a time. We will likely never sell them, but could.

I have been looking for a multifuel engine for generating electricity and finally found something that I like - if it works. Does anyone have any experience with this design? I looks like it can be fabricated with a lathe and some tools to cut metal - no foundry time work needed, but I am a novice in this area.

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

In the following passage, the Lord Jesus Christ teaches with two examples that unless one repents of all sinfulness, great and small, the end will be an eternity of torment or torture in the lake of fire, the fire of Hell.

Notice how the Lord compared sinners to all other Galileans who lived at that time and declared them to be no worse. Meaning, a person must repent of all sinfulness great and small. A person cannot excuse their own sinfulness by comparing it to that of another, for example, by saying at least I'm not doing something worse like others do. Bottom line: unless you repent of your sinfulness, you will perish - that is, experience eternity in the firey furnace of Hell.

Holy Bible - Luke 13:1-5 (ESV)
13 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

Addition:

And in this verse, the Lord Jesus Christ said that in addition to repenting, to believe the gospel.

Holy Bible - Mark 1:15 (KJB)
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Check your spare tire, tire iron, jack, etc!

Decided to throw this PSA out there after my recent experience this past Thursday on my way to work.

Had a blow out on my way to work, pulled into a gas station about 3-4 miles out, and figured this should be a 10-15 minute pain in the ass, but oh well. Car is a '98 Honda Accord I purchased exactly 3 years ago this month. When I bought it, like I do every car I purchase, I took quick inventory of everything in the trunk. The spare itself is under the false floor of the trunk, and the jack/tire iron combo are in a separate compartment built into the side. Everything looked correct, even nestled in their proper places so I figured good to go....

Now I'm going to loosen the lugs before I get that wheel off the ground. The socket part of the tire iron is too big for the lugs on the vehicle, far too much play to get the lugs off. Once I get them off with a 4 way that was brought to me, much to my delight the spare tire is a 4 lug wheel like what is on the car, but a far smaller bolt pattern. If I had to guess, by the size of this thing, and the goofy bolt pattern, its got to be an early-mid 90's VW, Hyundai, or Kia spare.

Needless to say the whole tire change turned into a huge debacle I had to deal with after work, but I'm just glad it was local. In the 3 years I've owned the car I've taken the thing to Indy and back 6 times, Milwaukee, Kalamazoo, etc.

If anyone has brought a used car into the family fairly recently take the 5 min to make sure all the spare tire accessories, and the spare itself are compatible. Even when everything else checks out, you never know what ended up in the trunk well....

Just wanting to say a big thank you for the information on here I would never had known about the fish stuff and would be paying a lot for a r x from a e r.

7.62x39mm , shtf and logistics

it wouldnt disappear completely, but the price per round will go up significantly, and im not sure it'll come back down because you dont have a whole lot of militaries using it anymore to flood the market with surplus ammo and help keep the price down (assuming by import ban you mean on russian made ammo)

7.62x39 is one of the most readily available cartridge, but thats in large part because of the foreign supply.. without that, i think you'd be at a disadvantage

i strongly believe that if youre going to pick on something based on post shtf availability that theres no better choice than 5.56, but if you want to go with a different caliber, you should be stockpiling as much ammunition as you can, at least 5,000 rounds worth in advance

Looking for a good GA river hike

It's time to plan next years adventure. I am looking for a good river hike right around where Tennessee meets Northern Georgia.

I am older now, and have gained a lot of weight recently. So I dont know if I can do hikes where you are required to sleep at a designated shelter. I dont want to have to push hard to make the miles. I want to wander around slowly, drop and make camp when, and where I feel like it. This means The Smokies are out. Dispersed camping is not allowed. I have to stick to the national forest.

I want to follow a river, so I am near water the whole time. I want to go 12 a day, for 3 days, make camp for 3 more days, then hike back. However, if I only make 3 miles a day, I could make that work too.

Based on my last trip, I will probably do 5 the first day, and 7 to 8 the rest of the time. So I will need at least 25 to 30 miles of trail to follow.

A river that I can fish in is also a nice bonus.

Who knows a trail that follows a river for 25 to 30 miles (say no more than 1/4 from the river at all times) near the Georgia/Tennessee border?

How about a map of all the trailheads and overnight parking for 14 days?

Ideas anyone?

Mower bed knives for kitchen knives

Default Mower bed knives for kitchen knives

Ive been using reel mower bed knives for quite awhile now to make knives and tomahawks. They have a bevel on one side and a shallow groove on the other side along with counter sunk screw hole all along the opposite edge. So i generally cut them into lengths and forge weld them into billets. Lately ive been using stock removal to cut off the screw holes and bevels. The bed knives are about 3/16" thick so there is a lot of grinding to get a standard kitchen knife thickness. Ive been thinkin of doing a hollow grind to thin them out a bit along the edge and leaving the spine thick. I havent been able to find anything with hollow ground kitchen knives, the majority seem to be just thin blades. The meat knives i dont see an issue its the wider chef knives im wondering if anybody thinks this would be a problem with function.

I was reading about a gun buy back or a gun "turn in" somewhere in the states here. Wasn't recently, but I was thinking....

I bet somebody dropped a colt python, a kimber 1911 or a Daniel defense AR in one of those boxes. I know I read about a colt commander being turned in "in the name of all that is good" and wanted to just raise hell.

First Line Belt FAK

Post may need to be moved, but this goes with your primary weapons system.

Moved my FAK from the belt setup to the chest rig. This is mainly a SHTF/Stay in the safe setup vs. my simple EDC OWB G43 carry. Question is, do most of you keep a FAK on your first line belt (that is, if you run one) or do you attach it to your plate carrier/chest setup? Just FYI, just talking your BLS system.

Im looking it at as,..the first line belt (domestically) would be grabbed if a pre SHTF event would happen or an elongated situation (i.e blackout) conjures up some BG's looking to take advantage. The belt plus chest rig would be donned during a bug out situation (if big out was last resort). What say you?

Sustainable, Honest Money v Central Banks, Debt As Money

A thread asking the question is gold money touched on the subject of what is money? The subject is so confusing, deliberately so according to the video t, I thought it beneficial to delve into it. The video explains how Fractional reserve, fiat currencies are legalized fraud. Money from the Objectivist Lexicon is:
Money is the tool of men who have reached a high level of productivity and a long-range control over their lives. Money is not merely a tool of exchange: much more importantly, it is a tool of saving, which permits delayed consumption and buys time for future production. To fulfill this requirement, money has to be some material commodity which is imperishable, rare, homogeneous, easily stored, not subject to wide fluctuations of value, and always in demand among those you trade with.
The Lexicon adds:
This leads you to the decision to use gold as money. Gold money is a tangible value in itself and a token of wealth actually produced. When you accept a gold coin in payment for your goods, you actually deliver the goods to the buyer; the transaction is as safe as simple barter. When you store your savings in the form of gold coins, they represent the goods which you have actually produced and which have gone to buy time for other producers, who will keep the productive process going, so that you’ll be able to trade your coins for goods any time you wish.
The Money is Debt video does not propose a specific money system that is NOT debt based but does suggest various intriguing alternatives. Honest Money by Gary North lays out the requirements for honest money, which clearly show how corrupt central banks fiat/fractional reserve currency is and overlaps with the Objectivism Lexicon in principle:
1. We shouldn’t expect something for nothing, such as the depositor’s withdrawal on demand of loaned-out funds, or counterfeit money making everyone richer.
2. The State shouldn’t interfere with private non- coercive decisions (contracts).
3. It is cheaper to print paper money than it is to mine metals.
4. Money isn’t money unless people expect other people to accept it in trade later on, meaning:
5. Money requires continuity of acceptance over time.
6. Debasing money is a form of tampering with weights and measures.
7. Debasing money reduces its value in trade.
8. Debasing money therefore reduces the wealth of people who hold money.
9. Warehouse receipts should be backed 100 percent at all times by whatever is promised by the receipt.
A couple of other considerations include Fractional reserve Deposit Multiplier via Investopedia: "reserve" is in denominator. This means a "10%" reserve allows banks to lend out x/.1 = 10x
A 5% reserve allows banks to lend out x/.05 =20x

Sustainable, Honest Money v Central Banks, Debt As Money

One must forgive to be forgiven - "And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven

Alert, you are misunderstanding the Bible. No where in the Bible does God tell lost sinners to forgive others first before they can be forgiven/saved. The Bible is very clear that the only requirement for God's salvation is faith in Jesus Christ as God's Son the Savior who died on the wooden cross and was buried and resurrected (came back to life) for the forgiveness of sin. Anyone who accepts Jesus as the Christ and believes the above is saved from the penalty of sin, spiritual death, eternal punishment in Hell/Lake of fire.

The verse you are referencing was what Jesus told His disciples when they ask Him to show them how to pray. The disciples already believed He was/is God's Son.

For a Christian, one who has already believed and is saved, to be cleansed of sin after he/she was saved, God requires us to confess or admit that we have sinned. When we do, God cleanses us. That is what Jesus was demonstrating when he washed the disciples feet. Forgiving others for sins or trespasses against us is one of the requirements for that cleansing, but not for salvation.

Example: when a person is saved, they are born into God's family. Just like a ne son or daughter is born into a human family. When the new daughter/son disobeys mom/dad there is a broken fellowship. Mom/dad do not kick the child out of the family for the disobedience. When the child confesses or says they are sorry, the fellowship is restored. The relationship of mom/dad to the child is never broken. Same is true with God and a Christian. When the Christian sins, the fellowship is broken. The Christian must confess the sin to God and God promises to cleanse/forgive the Christian of the sin. the fellowship is restored. The relationship of God the Father to the Christian through believing in jesus Christ as the Savior is never broken.

What do I need to know about weather stations?

It's a bit more complicated (and expensive) to put your weather station's data online. I used to have my weather station connected to the internet and I transmitted my data to the Weather Underground website:

Weather Underground

Unfortunately, we had a nearby lightning strike during a storm one time, and the power surge fried the mini-computer that connected my weather station to the router and sent my weather data on to the internet. I sent the computer off & got it repaired (which wasn't cheap) and set everything back up again. Then the whole thing happened all over again a year or so later, and so I just gave up. Now, I do know that they no longer use that particular mini-computer and hopefully, the new one is more durable.

Anyway, getting a weather station which you can put online is really more in-depth than I can get into myself. Besides, it's been a while since I did it and my information is outdated.

Instead, I recommend you check this page on the Weather Underground website. It explains everything you need to know about the equipment you'll need, and how to set it all up.

Buying a Person Weather Station

Hope that helps!

"The Long Dark" Game review!

I've been playing "The Long Dark" for the last couple of weeks. This is a very, big game.

You're a Bush Pilot that has crashed in the wilderness in Northern Canada, due to some weird sort of EMP event. No compass! NO maps! You have absolutely NO clue where you're at, and can die the first day, if you don't find:

Shelter.
Water.
Fire.
Food.

Finding shelter, and making fire, are your top priorities to start. However, lack of better clothing, food, water, and rest will kill you too.

Your goal is to survive the Canadian winter, for as long as possible.
You only have a small amount of gear with you. You have to scavenge old cabins, and the woods for supplies. You are apparently the ONLY person who's survived this event. There are lots of dead bodies to search for supplies.

The following are all learned skills (there are many more than this):

You have to learn how to make fire.
You have to learn how to repair your clothing.
You have to find MANY things to survive for any amount of time. You have to be really resourceful, and patient.
You have to find a knife, hatchet, and an Enfield rifle, and ammo for hunting.
You learn how to make a survival bow, and arrows, and how to use them, rabbit snares, and how to use them, how to throw stones to stun rabbits.
Sterilize water.
Find decent shelter.
Cook food.
Make fishing gear, and fish.

Wolves will kill you, Bears will kill you, and Moose will stomp you to smithereens and kill you.
You can fall off a cliff and die, you can fall through the ice, and freeze to death. Pretty realistic game, considering you need to survive as long as you can. The game technically doesn't end, until you die. I had a character that lived for 126 days, and fell off a log crossing a ravine, and plummeted to her death. NO DO OVERS! When you're dead, you're dead.
Challenging, even on the "easy" settings! You are literally in the Scandinavian version of HELL, and you must SURVIVE!

It is VERY easy to die in the game! Misuse a resource? You die.
Make the wrong move by accident? You die.
Wrong place, at the wrong time?
You die! You can also be injured, and die a slow, painful death, if you don't make a priority of treating yourself. Not the easiest thing to do.

Lots, and lots of awesome places to explore!

Cool artwork!

Replay value, is equaled only by "The Sims 2/3".

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Worth the purchase price from Steam!

For DECENT game play (medium high, and high settings), recommended set up is:

4thGen i5/i7
HD4600 (Medium High), nVidia GT730m graphics (High settings), and 8gb/RAM.

I can tell you, this is a VERY challenging game to play, and you can't really go about it the same way as you do other games. Requires "Common Sense", just as it would in a real life scenario. This game requires you to think a lot. Try it on "Voyageur" mode to start.

I don't know if there are cheats for this game or not. As far as I can tell, there are not. If you DO find them, do NOT use them!

I won't give any more details, so as not to spoil it for anyone.

The "community" will not really give you too many answers. They don't want to spoil the game for you either. There IS a "Wiki" for this game:

https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/The_Long_Dark

But I recommend trying the game, before you go there.

Check it out!

Making a case for the effectiveness of 5.56

I have seen quite a bit of 5.56 bashing in some of these
threads, with all due respect to those people I am not in agreement. The 5.56 at closer ranges (say out to at least 3-400 yards) has proven to be effective. My main beef with 5.56 is against barriers and when reaching out past 3-400 yards.
I dont really care for caliber debates , every firearm and round has its place. I have talked with a few of the bigger name instructors and more often then not they speak pretty positively of the 5.56, even if its not their preference. I will add more articles, videos, etc at a later date.

Just a couple neat article on military 5.56:

https://www.sadefensejournal.com/wp/?p=769

(Quote from article: The fact is that there are no official documents that the 5.56mm NATO caliber has failed in any NATO Army. On the contrary, we have official documents stating that there is no problem with the lethality of the 5.56mm caliber at all. Most NATO nations even agree that the next generation of small arms weapons by 2020 will still be using the 5.56mm NATO caliber. )

https://advanceandreview.wordpress.c...military-5-56/

An article from a doctor and former Australian Special Forces member . He breaks down some basic physics and gives more then a "because ive been there" explanation on why he feels the 5.56 is effective. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions and alot of people have different experiences but this guy does speak from both a combat background and a medical background.

https://thenewsrep.com/45197/why-id-...47-than-an-m4/

This thread is not meant to argue "whats the best" round for any use, its meant to show the merits of the 5.56 and show noobs the other side of the coin from the "bigger is always better" crowd.

Someone tell me the secrets of women..

What the heck do they carry in their purses?? I have a 24 hour bug out bag thats no where near the size of some of their Daily carry bags...

Why do they take a brand new pair of jeans and tear holes in them?? To make them look old?? Why aren't the holes ever in the back of the legs??

Why so many shoes?? I have a pair of work boots and a decent set of what we used to refer to as sneakers.. When one wears out, I toss them and get another pair. Ohh, and a pair of "dress" shoes even though I never wear a dress??

Why do men have to wear ties and women don't when in formal attire??

Dying their hair anything but a natural color.. Pink is NOT a natural hair color..

Stripes in their hair??

Have you ever been in a bar with a buddy and this gorgeous woman walked in and your buddy said "Man, if she had brown and blonde stripes in her hair, torn jeans with pink in 4 inch letter across the butt, and a piercing in their nose right there between the two nostrils.. I'd be all over that"??

Put a good lookin farm girl in a pair of nice jeans and a flannel shirt and I'm callin a Taxi to take her home in.. Unless she has a truck that bigger and better than mone, then I just propose on the spot...

Why is there a WIC program where Single women with an infant and/or a child get milk and food to feed those kids but, there's not a MIC program for men that ended up with the kids??

What kind of questions do you have about women??

9mm better for grizzly defense than .44 magnum?

I was doing some research on bear defense with handguns and found some interesting results from an article where the author collected 37 confirmed accounts of bear defense with handguns, and broke it down by caliber. the interesting part was when comparing the success rates and the end result for the bear. In short, defending against a grizzly with a 9mm was successful in 3/3 grizzly attacks, all resulting in the death of the bear. defending with a .44 was successful in 12/12 cases, but had many instances of the bear just being wounded or running away from the muzzle blast.

I'm inclined to think that it comes down to shots on target as the biggest factor in bear defense, and that people with 9mm were more likely to get more shots on target faster.

Just to add fuel to the fire, there was one instance of someone using a .454 ruger revolver. it worked, but jammed on his last shot.

Butter Refrigerated or room temp?

Been using Kerrrygold butter for the past couple of years, keep it in a tupperware bowl in the fridge. Problem is the stuff is hard as a rock, can't spread it on my cornbread or anything for that matter.

Is it going to kill me if I left it in a covered airtight container on the kitchen counter? Where do you leave your butter?

The price of production knives has spiraled ever-higher in the past few years. It used to be that very few knives cost as much as the highly-vaunted Chris Reeve Sebenza. Cross that price, around $330 at the time, was all but unheard of. Now, companies release knives that are two or three times that price[.....]

Cancelled my knife nut card.

I've been heading this way for some years now, selling off and giving away most my knife collection. I have to admit I was once a full time knife nut. But over the years there's been a weird kind of awakening, and a increased feeling of "What the hell am I doing with all this s--t."

I've long since sold off my small Randall collection, which was always a disappointment as far as knives go. Too thick, heavy, and everyday steel. My high end folders are very long gone. I find all my needs are met by my everyday pocket knives and some plain Jane working fixed blades. For fish and small game, I can't find much that worked better than a real butchers knife made by Victorinox, or Old Hickory, or Russell-Dexter. For heavier duty a small 12 inch machete made by any of the reputable brands from south/central America. In my pocket everyday is either my old Buck 301 stockman or one of my SAK's. I have a few Mora's around that do good work on gutting and cleaning fish.

As an retired old fart living in Texas and doing more fishing than ever before, I find I need a nice sharp knife everyday. So far in the past three years since we've moved to Texas from the Washington D.C. area, all my knife needs have been met with plain working cutlery that I don't have to worry about loosing or damaging or even giving away to someone who needs a knife.

It was like waking form some kind of temporary insanity and looking back on it wondering what the hell I was thinking. I did the same thing with my gun collection and feel very liberated.

Relief from Attack by Succubus / Incubus Demons - Drink a Serving of Clean Water

These demons are flesh eating and reside within one's body. They attack the skin, but also other body systems.

Drinking a serving of clean water will task the demons to "process" the water instead of attacking the person. This will give relief from the attack. How much relief depends on a number of factors.

Writing idea!!

Sounds like fun, you should do it.

I would suggest a character who is a ruggedly handsome army combat vet with boyish good looks; the shoulders of a Greek god; who has all the best traits of a biker, redneck, and a cowboy; a quick wit; and is humble beyond measure but I already know how it turns out. Mrs Beaner could help develop the character of his trophy wife side-kick.

In all seriousness, it would be a good read to see what everyone comes up with.

How far away from (fire-risk) forest do I have to live for SHTF?

I'm not entirely sure how well this applies to people like me who lives in what conventionally is regarded as low risk areas (like New Zealand) but I can only assume that it actually DOES apply.

So I'm wondering does this mean that I can't live anywhere near forest, or does it just mean that I can live wherever I just have to take more anti-wildfire precautions?
I can't really find any good info about it, but also there might be some different variables introduced into the question if the topic is post-SHTF.

Living in a forest will definatly increase your forest fire risk.

More reason to volunteer as a wildland firefighter.. good money.

none the less different areas will be more prone to fire than other areas. if you can clear land, or live in a wetland area you can reduce your fire risk...

digging ditches, trenches, making a moat if large area of land, breakwalls, back burn prepositioning. Fires are incredibly powerful. If there are big enough dense enough forest for crown fires then it is a dangerous area.

Derooting and infilling areas with gravel might help just too many factors. creating a land that is fire hardened isn't imposible.

Much the same as creating an area that has a very high fire rating is possible... the best bet is building underground. having your air system able to be shut down and run off of backup air supply or simply shut down evacuate and return after the fire.

its easily possible but forests do burn from forest fire. Its not that it will be highly likely, but some areas have increasing risk over time, other climate areas will be subjected to increase rainfall.

bear in mind though, its not only forests that burn.. grassland burns..
scrub burns..... cities burn...

the bottom line though is that in a SHTF.. resources will likely be stretched that is why being in an area with a good volunteer or strong firefighting can be of use.

none the less yeah its a risk but they can only happen in one area about once every so often.

again building underground is the safest option.

if you can build your outer walls with mud/clay.. as it will harden with fire... makes it even more versatile after a fire.

America’s oldest veteran, Richard Overton, who served in the Army during World War II and credited God, whiskey and cigars for his remarkable longevity, died Thursday in Texas at the age of 112, reports say.

The WWII veteran served in the all-black 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion from 1942 to 1945, a period that included stops in Angaur, Palau; Peleliu, Micronesia; and Iwo Jima, Japan.

The Lord will Repay and Get Revenge

Romans 12:19
"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."

For those who are not found righteous, the Lord Almighty will repay and get revenge. The more evil a person has done, the more the Lord will repay and get revenge. Those who continue in their sinful, wicked ways store up the wrath of God - to be repaid. Some will have burning coals of brimstone heaped upon their heads for additional torment or torture for the evil they have done.
Those who take the mark of the beast or the number of his name, and worship the image of the beast will be condemned to the full wrath of God - the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone. The mark of the beast will be required to buy and sell. Those without the mark will not be able to buy and sell, and likely be considered enemies of the state or terrorists.

The word of God to consider while breathing air (or not). There is an eternity that will follow.

Alabama AG probing whether disinformation campaign against Roy Moore violated laws: report

The attorney general’s comments come a day after liberal Silicon Valley billionaire Reid Hoffman issued an apology for funding the group behind the efforts.

Democratic operatives are said to have created thousands of fake Russian accounts on Twitter and began following Moore, prompting attention from local and national media that falsely suggested Russia is backing Moore’s candidacy.

The project also involved creating a Facebook page and imitated conservative Alabamians who weren’t satisfied with the Republican candidate while encouraging others to write in another candidate.

Walmart 770 Remington

I was at a local Walmart superstore about an hour ago and, as usual, I always look in the rifle cabinet while passing through the store. There it was....a 770 Remington with a 3x9x40 scope for $254.00. I thought it was 308 and I already have 308 rifles, but the price interested me. While fondling the rifle I noticed “300 win mag” on the barrel and we instantly bonded.

Tomorrow i’ll Thread the barrel, install a muzzle break, bipod and bigger better scope.
