What are we doing in poop hole countries?

We all know what Trump allegedly said earlier this week. Whether you agree with what he (allegedly) said or not I think the bigger question is what are we doing in these **** hole countries?

Sitting here watching Black Hawk Down and it made me think, why the hell were we there? Right or wrong I get why we were in Iraq. Oil. But What in the hell were we doing in **** hole countries like Mogadishu and others? Why are we still there? There is nothing of value there. What am I missing?
