What's the deal with Mlok?

Just out of curiosity. What makes mlok better than everything else. Like keymod or just plain pic rails?

Is there any benefit to mlok over anything else? I see a lot of products coming out that are Mlok compatible. Is keymod dead? Just trying to figure out why Mlok is getting so popular and why so many companies are switching to it.

Is it that magpul created it and magpul sells stuff everywhere? Is magpul becoming the standard for accessories?

Just looking for thoughts on the subject.
